Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Nicole.
Hi Jasmine, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story of becoming a hairstylist started as a little girl. I loved watching my mother and grandmother provide services as beauticians. Every Easter Sunday, I looked forward to watching my granny do “Press n Curls” from her Uptown New Orleans shotgun kitchen. I begin to provide services to my family and, eventually, my friends. Upon graduating high school, I put aside my love for the beauty industry for what I thought was the safer option, the medical field. After being in medicine for 12+ years, I decided to finally pursue my dream and I enrolled in Paul Mitchell: The School. Upon graduating, I began to work in various salons before I realized I thrive in a more private environment. After relocating to Atlanta, I decided to open my own salon suite. Tha Jazz Effect is my dream and I couldn’t be more grateful for my remaining and new clients.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has been rougher than New Orleans streets after Katrina! LOL! I have cried, stressed, worried, and lost sleep behind becoming an entrepreneur. This road is still hard. The challenges I’ve faced have been being the sole financial investor. Everything I have has been poured into Tha Jazz Effect. Believing in yourself is a challenge alone. Opening a business will take a toll on you mentally and physically. Throughout this process, I’m thankful to have a supportive partner to keep me grounded.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a licensed hairstylist and makeup artist. I specialize in various services such as Silk press & Blow-Outs, Custom hair color methods such as balayage and lived-in highlights, Hair Extensions (Tape-In’s, Quick-weaves, Micro-links, and Beaded Weft Extensions), bridal and natural makeup. What separates me from most stylists is my professionalism, skills and punctuality. I strive to provide my clients with a relaxing salon environment filled with good music and good wine!
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Pros of Atlanta: I love the abundant opportunities available for creators/entrepreneurs. I love all the thriving, eclectic businesses, restaurants, and music.
Cons: Scammers and the traffic!!!
