Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaz Sain.
Hi Jaz, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Started out cooking on a grill when I first moved out on my own a few years later I was given a small bbq smoker and I was hooked. Over the years I bought and sold several different types of smokers and grills while trying to perfect my bbq. In the spring of 2020, I decided to start a YouTube channel where I was hoping to learn more about bbq while teaching others about bbq by showing the right ways and wrong ways of cooking and grilling and now I’m here in 2023 in my 3rd bbq competition and I still love every minute of cooking and grilling bbq.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road at all. Bbq in itself is a challenge and you have to love it to keep coming back and trying to perfect your recipe. Now add in trying to film yourself and make a video for YouTube and Tiktok and you have a whole new world of problems. I have struggled more with video making than I ever thought I would, from trying to get the right shot to editing, it has all been a struggle. Bbq itself has come pretty natural to me, I mean I have made my fair share of mistakes but I learn from them and move on.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have been doing youtube for almost three years now and Tiktok for a year and I specialize in backyard home-cooked bbq and grilling. I think I’m most proud of what bbq has done for me. It has helped me connect with people that I never thought I’d have something in common with.
I think what sets me apart is I’m not trying to make fancy food; I’m just a guy in his garage making food that everyone can make but I wanna make it the right way. I’m just hoping people see me as someone they can relate to.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Unfortunately, I see the bbq trends heading in the wrong direction. I see too many people trying to make bbq fancy. Bbq isn’t about weird flavors and garnish, it’s about cooking with smoke and using good seasoning and mouthwatering sauce and I hope people start bringing bbq back to its roots.
