Check Out Jennifer Moore’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Moore.

Hi Jennifer, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My dad gave me my first point-and-shoot 35mm camera when I was about five years old. I took two years of photography classes in high school, where I learned the art of film photography. After I graduated high school, the photography world went digital and so did I. In the fall of 2020, I decided to turn my hobby into a business. I have met so many amazing people along the way. I am so fortunate to have clients who have booked with me since my first year as an official business owner. I get to watch their families grow and capture memories for them along the way. I studied digital marketing at the University of North Georgia, where I received my bachelor’s degree in 2022. I apply what I learned in college to my business and continue to learn things about the ever-evolving field of photography through YouTube and various podcasts. I get so excited when I discover a new editing technique and can’t wait to try it!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The thing I struggle with most is something I think every artist struggles with. We often compare our work to that of others in our industry. I make a conscious effort to understand my style is my own and my clients are happy with their products. We can learn from and find inspiration from each other, but stay true to your art and your style.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a photographer based in North Georgia specializing in weddings, lifestyle portraits, pets, events, and more! I absolutely love getting to capture memories for people they will cherish forever. There are two things I’m very proud of. In the summer of 2020, there was a Black Lives Matter gathering held in downtown Cumming just in front of the Forsyth County Courthouse. I photographed a person holding a sign calling attention to the infamous Tamla Horsford case. A few months after I shared this photo to social media, someone from People Magazine reached out to me wanting to publish my photo in their article covering Tamla’s heartbreaking story. The other thing I’m proud of is an event I photograph once a month in Atlanta. This event provides a safe space for lgbtq+ people to dance and meet new people once a month. I started photographing their events from the beginning in December 2021. That first party, we had somewhere around 150 people show up. Last month, we had somewhere around 500 in attendance. It’s been an honor to help this event grow. When I edit the photos after each event, I get chills. Seeing people getting to have fun and feel safe being themselves is so moving. What sets me apart from others I think is the lifelong passion I’ve had for photography and my eagerness to continue learning and developing my craft. I am constantly finding tutorials to learn new tips and tricks about this industry. Nothing makes my day like hearing how much my clients love their photos. I strive to capture the love and happiness felt in that moment so they can reflect on it for many years to come.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
I started my business in 2020, which was a risk. However, through perseverance and faith in my work, I was able to grow and keep growing. What I took away from it is, strive to find the best possible solution. For example, I shot a wedding the summer of 2020. Face masks were mandated and there was some worry about how it would impact the photos. My colleague and I found the solution. We took photos of the bridal party all dressed in their best and posed them to look kind of like a big, tough army. It made a memorable photo! So the lesson for me was life is going to throw your curve balls. Things are not going to go as planned but there is a way around it and a way to work with it if you put your mind to it!
