Hi Jerrell, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
From a Kid, Raised by a single mother, who has a heart of honor & Gold made me into the man I am today! Hard work & dedication is in me not on me! My Mom took care of me & my siblings with an addition of her niece! Working 3 jobs was something that stuck with me! And I knew when I got of age, I had to step up in a major way! Life would have taken a turn if my Athletic career happened, but life was lifing it was time to get in my bag of God’s gifts he gave me and use them! And now today, I am a Chef
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not! Trial and tribulations was definitely amongst the journey! The road conditions was very bumpy, potholes, and at times running on “E” to find my way in this society we call the world! I went to job corps in Tucson Az, were I went to culinary school for less than a semester, I felt like I wasn’t properly being taught to enhance my ingredient for better cooking, which I was taught already by my mom growing up my sisters growing up and also my brother! A household of cooks will naturally turn you into a versatile beast! Being from the Bay Area, Oakland California is very diverse in culture! So, I was taught to provide for my environment and also my family! I had my first child early, and then my second two years later!
I was in the music industry since I was in high school and even when I got out of high school, I still had to figure it out, and I still had to have positive faith to know my next journey was to be a outstanding chef and start generational wealth For my kids and my family!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a chef, a chef that pries his self on every ingredient every preparation and the most important thing I cook with genuine love! I Specialize in seafood, Gourmet Style wings, Specialty EggRolls, Chinese food, Mexican food, Italian food, Soul food! What I’m most proud of is my resilience and me never given up and being there for my beautiful daughters and making a change in this cycle of generational curse’s and always being there for my family ! What sets me apart from others in my lifelong mood of being a leader and not a follower, and taken chances to be a success in life and not worrying about yesterday!
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I like best is that their is unlimited of opportunity to make a difference in this food industry! If you have consistent product/food, and it’s very good you will succeed! What I like least is, the amount of homelessness! When I get to a place to give back more, I love philanthropy and when I’m expanded with 4-5 restaurants, that will be my duties is to help the less fortunate people in my backyard and where I am!
