Check Out Jess Phillips’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jess Phillips.

Hi Jess, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I moved to Atlanta in 2018 after quitting my job as a Director of Sales for a Hyatt Hotel in Charleston, SC and taking a year off of work to travel to South America, Southeast Asia, and New Zealand. When I came home from this once in a lifetime trip, I thought I would have figured out my next path and that simply did not happen. I still had the most amazing experience and would not change it for the World.
I decided to move to Atlanta because I wanted to be close to my brother. We are from NY and it’s hard to be away from family. Now we live Piedmont Park away from each other and I get to watch my nieces grow up which has been a true blessing.
My best friend’s mom is a realtor in NY and she suggested that I meet with her friend who at the time owned a real estate brokerage. Real estate was never on my mind however she knew everyone so I thought if I told her my interests she’d be able to give me some guidance and introduce me to some people who could potentially help me figure out what’s next.
The more we talked the more she thought that I would make a great realtor. After all, I love talking to people, getting to know their story, and learning how I can support them. What better way to support someone than to help them find a place to call home? I got my license at the end of 2018 and have been loving this role ever since.
The brokerage I joined has since closed and I now call the Anna K Intown team home. I love being a part of team. My colleagues are the number one reason I can’t imagine being anywhere else.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Real estate is never a smooth road. The rollercoaster they often refer to is real. Being 100% commission based is exciting but also nerve wrecking. You truly get out what you put in so the sky is the limit. As in any job there are good days and challenging days. However there is nothing more rewarding than helping someone find a place to call home – somewhere they can gather friends and family to make core memories. It’s the ultimate job.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Buyer Specialist on the Anna K Intown team meaning that 90% of my business is supporting people purchasing their next home. I love working with buyers because they are typically so excited. First time home buyers are my absolute favorite because I also enjoy the education process.
My superpower is expressing how much I care. Although this is my way of life, at the end of the day I want my clients to feel happy and supported.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
To remove my emotion from the situation. I get so excited for my buyers and when things don’t pan out the way I hope for them, it can be disheartening. However I’ve never not had a buyer end up exactly where they should be. So I constantly remind myself “what’s meant to be will be.’ Which is easier said than done in the moment.
