Today we’d like to introduce you to Jimal Deas.
Hi Jimal, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m not the best at doing interviews. But here’s a brief summary of my story. I was born in South Carolina. While in high school and college, I injured my back and was forced to stop playing football. While in school, I initially wanted to be an engineer, but within rehabilitation from my injury, I became to fall in love with the aspect of helping others that will help prevent injuries and help others when they become injured. Fast forward to over 20 years later, I still have love for the profession and still have a strong desire to help others and improve my craft. Today, my mindset still operates as an engineer with how detailed I work with my clients. Currently, I’m a sports performance specialist and soft tissue specialist where my office is in Smyrna, GA. When I am not in my office, I travel around the world to do treatment with clients who compete or perform in the NFL, NBA, WNBA, MLB, track and field, tennis, bobsled, actors/actresses, comedians, musicians, social media influencers, weekend warriors, and average everyday folks. I have been blessed to have grown so much within the profession to work with the level of clientele I have.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, the road has not been smooth. I still remember a conversation when I first got started; there was a quote that I still think about frequently, “Be used, know you’re being used, and take advantage of it.” You can take that quote and chose how you want to use it, but how it was told to me, you can’t expect to go from bottom to the top in a short time in any business or any craft, you have to go through different levels. “Be used” – for me, I had to work as a volunteer or receive lower pay for a few years. “Know you’re being used” – for me, I had to accept that I was not getting the pay I deserved and I had to work more to prove myself within the organization. ” Take advantage of it” – for me, I grinded, but also used the opportunity to mix and mingle with other like-minded people to better learn the craft and network with people who were places that can help me advance to get my foot in the door in bigger opportunities. When you combine this quote with each meaning, you will have the blueprint to be successful. But with success, there will always be haters, where you have to learn to ignore the haters, and give them something to talk about while being successful. The importance of it all, you have to mentor others to guide them along the way as others have helped you.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a sports performance specialist and a soft tissue specialist. At my business, DEAS Sports Performance and Therapy, we use advanced soft tissue techniques to maximize your athletic performance by increasing your flexibility, your range of motion, your speed, and your strength so you can train and compete to your greatest potential.
I am known for helping athletes and individuals to become successful and remain healthy in their sport or craft.
I’m proud when I see my clients succeed especially the ones on tv when they have a good game, competition or performance musically or in theater. I’m extremely proud when my clients become Olympic Champions, World Champions, Super Bowl Champions, WNBA Champions, old school Pro Bowlers (Not the new system), and a Hollywood Walk of Famer. I’m proud because when they succeed, I succeed too.
What sets me apart from others is that I am a former 2 sport collegiate athlete, and I’m a coach who understands and studies the biomechanics of their sport which helps me to do treatment more detailed than your normal practitioner.
What does success mean to you?
There isn’t enough space in this interview box to answer this question. But the short answer is my definition of success is when your work speaks for itself about you and your name is in rooms that you would have never imagined you’ll be in. The money is always the goal, but also the positive reputation and referral are even more rewarding because people respect your work and will need what you can offer to them. Also with success, it doesn’t matter how successful you think you are, let your work inspire others and if people are bold and humble enough to ask for your help, mentor them so they can be powers for good also. These my friends are my definitions of a successful individual or entrepreneur.
