Today we’d like to introduce you to Jocelynn Tyson.
Hi Jocelynn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
From elementary school to high school, I was a mascara, eyeliner, & lip gloss type of girl who has loved for makeup ever since I was seven years when her mother told her, “You too young for makeup”. Knowing in my mind, it is a great age to start early. 2016, I was in college had no idea much of the makeup behind it. I went to YouTube to learn about makeup.
My bestfriend was the person who taught me through so much more. It got interesting when I got to know them. I practiced more on myself up until 2019 when I was doing my best friend’s face who I put my hands on first. Summer of 2020, I did my first gig doing makeup at a fashion show in Montgomery. Ever since then, I been doing faces for weddings, prom, graduation, etc. A year ago, I was a certified makeup artist on New Skills Academy. The best decision I’ve done ever since. I’ve gotten better of where I want to be and do what I love as an artist to make sure that they enhance their beauty every other way naturally or full glam. Always remember being beautiful inside and out. Being a makeup artist is a gift from god that I never knew I was so good at it so it became my talent and turned to a full time.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly, it hasn’t been a smooth road. I have big challenges because I’m deaf with a cochlear implant. Sometimes I have been hard on myself to the point where is always “I can’t do it” or “everyone so amazingly talented”. I’ve always felt like I can do so much more with my brushes or anything that can become more challenging for me to know I can do it if I can try multiple times or I can do other times when I feel like I’m ready. I always take longer breaks when I feel like I be loving every other MUAs work are so good.
I’m a makeup artist who specializes in doing full glam, bridal makeup, natural glam, etc. What I’m so proud of is trying new things along with makeup to make sure if that’s what I’m going for or trial/error every time to make it look so easy to work with or not. I always go for it when it comes to trending or collaboration with other artists who all about their confident when it comes to being a makeup artist and their representation no matter where you at.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I would like to share is that never give up your talent that you love most. Always cherish it while you can & keep dreaming the way you want your goals to be set. Keep processing and be consistent.
