Today, we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Prime Calhoun.
Hi Joshua, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Joshua Alexander “PRiME” Calhoun. I’m 28 years old and from Lafayette, Louisiana. I’m a dancer/choreographer. I’ve been dancing since flip phones and beepers, and I still love it like I did the first day.
I attended Southern University A&M College and Morris Brown College (C/O2020). I train at Groove2Musik Studios (company 2023 & 2024). I’ve choreographed for collegiate teams, high school teams, community-based teams, artists, music videos, concept visuals, fraternities and sororities, etc. Choreographing is my life, and I’m extremely grateful for my gift.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story. Has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
No, it hasn’t been smooth sailing; the no’s in the industry are tough to take, but they build for an amazing comeback! Not losing sight of what you want is a hard thing to do.
I’ve dealt with many things varying from relationships, mental health, physical health, and imposter syndrome. With managing all those tribulations you mustn’t give up! That can never be an option.

I’m a choreographer/dancer, which I’m known and respected for. I’m most proud of my resiliency in the game, authenticity, and dedication to my craft and journey. I push my pen every time that’s what sets me apart from the girls, respectfully.
Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
What has worked for me is to put myself in places where I have mentors who are willing and unselfishly pour into me, my growth, and my spirit. A huge thank you to Leigha Porter & D-Ray for being amazing mentors.
