Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsey Dennard
Hi Kelsey, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Lauren and I have always held ourselves to a high standard professionally. Seeing to it that we go above and beyond for our clients, our continued education, and the environments we work in. While changes through the stay at home order gave us the push, I believe it was inevitable that we continued to want better until we made it for ourselves. Once we locked in on that dream, we became unstoppable. Starting in a humble 200sqft salon suite, we laid the ground work for our company. We knew other stylist longed for the independence of working for themselves while working alongside a team, so Citrine was born! We expanded our two chair salon suite to a bustling five stylist salon in Grant Park in just four years. We gathered up some of our best girlfriends and made a salon powerhouse with expertise ranging from custom, undetectable extensions to modern, lived-in color. We are changing the way salons are ran to meet our needs and the desires of other stylist just like us.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Oof- Im not sure that any “road-less-traveled” is smooth but it’s been 100% worth it. We ran into some challenges pretty early on with a disgruntled previous employer. We both grew our families and welcomed three babies in just a year and a half, while trying to learn how to run and grow a business. We both ran into pregnancy challenges and Lauren has even since been diagnosed with Lupus. All in all, though challenges have definitely been present, I’m grateful for the careers we have carved out for ourselves and how well we have worked in a partnership to support each other during those times.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Citrine is a VIBE! As a salon, we have a focus in color and extensions. And while I believe you could spot one of our clients “in the wild” and know its our work, I think what sets us apart is the relationships we cultivate. Our clients are some of our favorite people! We pour champagne or iced lattes and laugh/ cry/ give (unsolicited) advice.. whatever the appointment calls for. We build relationships with them outside of simply doing their hair, we truly care for them while making them smoking hot!
