Today we’d like to introduce you to Ketorrie Chatman-Ballenger

Hi Ketorrie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a self taught home chef that started Kee’s Eatery and Co. in 2019. I started out my career by cooking for my family and friends at home. They would always tell me “OMG you should consider to share your gift with the rest of the world and make money off doing what you love”, so I did just that. I started out doing individual plate sales at first and then some of my customers wanted to use me as a caterer for their events so I branded Kee’s Eatery & Co. and I made it into a business. I started doing cooking content on Facebook and TikTok to get my name out there and display my talents and I ended up going viral a few times and I was able to monetize off of my cooking videos. Today in 2024. I am considered a private chef and I do small parties. At times I became discouraged because I felt like people wasn’t trying to pay me for what I was worth so I took a step back. My business isn’t quite where I want it to be as of November 2024 but that is okay I still cook with love and passion and when the right person hire me as their private chef I will be ready.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been smooth at all, I have battled with personal adversities and also business. The struggles I have experienced along the way has been not enough business coming in and feeling discouraged. A lot of times I felt like I wasn’t meant to do what I do because of people questioning my prices or not appreciating my worth. It made me feel like I was doing something wrong and it caused lack of motivation. Also working a 9-5 while trying to live your life and go to nursing school and run your business is a big struggle. I have been handling it so far and it will pay off once I use my nursing career to fund my food truck business in the future.

As a private chef, my work revolves around creating personalized dining experiences that cater to individual tastes, dietary preferences, and special occasions. I specialize in a range of cuisines, with a focus on seasonal ingredients and sustainable practices. Whether it’s crafting an elegant multi-course dinner, meal prepping for busy families, or planning themed events, my goal is to make every meal memorable.

I’m known for my attention to detail and the ability to blend flavors in unexpected ways. My culinary style combines classic techniques with modern twists, allowing me to create dishes that are both comforting and innovative. I also take pride in accommodating various dietary needs, whether it’s gluten-free, vegan, or low-carb, ensuring everyone can enjoy delicious food.

What sets me apart is my commitment to building a personal connection with my clients, and my motivation and drive that I have. I believe that food is a deeply personal experience, so I take the time to understand each client’s preferences and stories, which helps me craft menus that resonate on a personal level.

One of my proudest achievements is creating a surprise bachelorette dinner that transformed a simple gathering into a heartfelt celebration, complete with custom recipes inspired by the couple’s journey together. It’s moments like these that remind me why I love what I do.
