Today we’d like to introduce you to Kid (Eric) Voorhees (Posey).
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was the kid with the stutter so much so that it would make me a target for other kids growing up. Eventually, I found myself hating my voice for a long time as a result then I started making music. Now I’m slowly learning to love my voice whether it’s from tracks like Thank Me Later (SRD), Bless Up!, Pretender (Lilsmoketheone), Cleanse (Lilsmoketheone) or even 5th Ave (Lilsmoketheone). Music has become a process of healing my relationship with my own voice.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s never a smooth road, there are times I’m angry with myself for not writing enough or times where I feel I haven’t given a track enough of me to actually be happy with the verses I make. Sometimes I feel I’ve neglected my ability to freestyle and just allow myself to live in that moment. Oftentimes, I don’t see my own greatness so I withhold tracks that I’d like to release. To offer those tracks the chance to speak for me.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I make music. At the moment the song I’m most known for is Thank Me Later whereas the song that most newer folk enjoy of mine is Bless Up! in comparison. I’m a goofy kind, I do a mix of nerd rap, trap metal, boom bap and even R&B Rap. I’m proud of my willingness to experiment and try to do things outside of my realm, I want to make more forms of music that reaches people in different ways. I make music that’ll make you feel differently about me each time, it could “what did he just say?!” Or “He’s just a lil weird but fun”.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
You can support me by reaching me on instagram (@kidvoorhees). Doesn’t matter if you’re a visual artist, a vocal artist or even a motivational artist. I’m always willing to do features and collaboration work.
