Today we’d like to introduce you to KidzinaKorner Kiak.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We are KidzinaKorner a.k.a. KIAK, officially founded in 2017 amongst two best friends, JTRAFL (Jaz the Renegade Artist for Life) and TaviSpice. Early in the friendship, we made skits and did freestyles just to alleviate stress and for giggles and winded up turning it into a music group & collective, the more we started to express ourselves and as we are today!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
JTRAFL: Oooh, at the very beginning of our career paths in 2018, we experienced loss in our families. I lost my uncle, Tay (Tavispice) lost her father and I lost my father three weeks after she lost hers in the same month…
TaviSpice: …Yeah, and a week before both of their birthdays! It was literally like a movie and it felt like nobody cared… but, I mean this is the real world so, people moved forward but, at that time, it WAS HEAVY!
JTRAFL: It was heavy cause we were so focused that even after the passing, we still had work to do in the studio and just working 9 to 5 was hard too! Our fathers and Tay’s sister who passed a year after in 2019 supported us so much so, it was an adjustment for sure!
TaviSpice: But, we’re in a much better place now! Using the fuel of our family and focusing on our growth helps us where we are today. I know they would and are proud of our determination!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
KIAK (KidzinaKorner) is a collective that allows us to express ourselves in different musical genres and in our passions. KIAK is more than music; is almost like a movement! We express ourselves with visual art, fashion, photography, music, and probably more in the future and we want to motivate people around us to do the same! It’s more about your own personal expression over aesthetics and merely fitting in. We just love to create and be ourselves and inspire people along the way!
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
TaviSpice: Haha, well…. (Laughs) JTRAFL: Well technically we’re cousins… my cousin married her dad in the 2000s so we really just on some cousin sh*t just hanging out and doing sh*t together
TaviSpice: Yes! We are technically cousins who just be kicking it! Also, we’re hella goofy! Being a ‘Kid in a Korner’ is just a terminology to say that we are hopeful, driven and youthful! Even though I’m 30, I haven’t given up on my dreams and neither should y’all!
