Check Out Kirahvi Bello’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kirahvi Bello.

Kirahvi Bello

Hi Kirahvi, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Not only am I a published author, but a mother, wife and manager in my ‘day’ job. </span>I was born and raised in St. Petersburg, Florida, known for the best beaches (in my opinion). Growing up, my family instilled Christian values and taught me the importance of education, perseverance and community. I grew up in the church and maintain my Christianity to this day. I wouldn’t be where I am today without God’s grace and blessings. I struggled with some academics in high school, but grew to flourish in a college environment. I was accepted into a program for first generation college students, joined my sorority, Sigma Gamma Rho and participated in a variety of organizations that helped me prepare for a professional career. Now, not only do I have a Bachelors in Psychology, I also hold an MBA in Healthcare Administration.

I have been living in Atlanta since 2018 and enjoy the bustle of activity. My husband and I welcomed our daughter in 2023 and she’s been a shinning light in our lives ever since. My family and friends are motivators in my life and important parts of my story.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have encountered many obstacles in my life, but have overcame them through focusing on the end goal and the people I surround myself with. Being an independent author, everything comes out of my personal pockets, printing, formatting softwares, copyrights, editing and more. When I sell books, it funds the next book so marketing is imperative to my success, or I fail. With the out of pocket costs, I have to make tough decisions around book releases and realistic budgets.

In high school, I lost a scholarship that devastated me and my goals towards college. It seemed like more and more rejection letters were coming into the mail. But my mother fought for me and my dream of attending a university by a tabling event where we learned about a first generation college student program at the University of South Florida. College wasn’t easy, but I’m proud to say I graduated with my degree in 4 years. After graduation, I packed up my apartment and moved to Atlanta with my cat Delilah. It was the first time I was more than an hour away from my hometown or anything I knew. Away from my immediate family, my mom, brother and then boyfriend now husband. I was lonely and scared. I thought about quitting and giving up but didn’t. I’ve always wanted to live in Atlanta and it’s a dream I continue to live to this day in our home.

The transition into motherhood was not easy with the overwhelming weight of Postpartum depression. It was a difficult time in my life where I had to adjust to not only the life of a wife but the addition of now being mother, watching over the precious beautiful baby I was now in charge of. I thought about giving up writing for good, but my friends kept me encouraged and reminded me that I can accomplish my dreams while being a mom. I slowly found joy in writing again, which lead to my second book, Hooked on You about an entrepreneur that overcomes so much in her personal life to be a successful business owner.

I have had many more challenges in my life. But yet, God has continued to bless me with incredible friends and family to support and encourage me. Anytime I have wanted to give up, someone has stepped into my life to help, give guidance or just be a shoulder to cry on.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an independently published author. I have written The Book at the Bar series and specialize in black romance stories that take place in Atlanta and the surrounding areas. I’m known for writing loving but sometimes frustrating characters that ignite powerful passion. The series includes two books, The Book at the Bar and Hooked on You, that are both enjoyable, fun and fast paced reads.

I’m most proud anytime I do any event where I can meet new readers and build relationships with other authors. Seeing a readers initial reaction after reading my books make me proud and encourage me to keep going. What sets me apart is that my characters go through real life situations, like seeing if a career choice is the best move or even if the person they have been entertaining is best for them. I want to be known for characters that jump off the page and stay on readers hearts for years to come.

I’m also proud that I will also have two more books releasing in the next year!

What makes you happy?
What makes me happy is the development of a new story, meeting the characters and allowing them to guide the storyline. I not only enjoy the process of building a love story but making it feel real. Also, my family, my husband of close to 5 years and daughter because they make me smile and give me a reason to keep going.
