Check Out Kristen Wagoner’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Wagoner.

Hi Kristen, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I like to think of myself as a Compassion Vandal. I spend my days as a therapist helping people recover from trauma, mostly sexual trauma, abuse, and neglect. I spend my nights and weekends usually painting on actual canvas or STREET canvas to express my feelings and advocate for people without a voice. I’m a paradox, I guess.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being an empath, a therapist, and an artist definitely has its struggles. Feels like I’m always working with my heart. Being a therapist truly is heart work. Holding space with people, choosing to enter into their pain with them, helping them contain that pain, and figure out where to go from there is a wild ride. Sometimes in this work, it feels like my heart is going to burst and the only thing I can do is express what I feel through rebellion and spray paint.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’ve been in the mental health field for almost 20 years now. I am a full-time therapist and primarily specialize in treating trauma; all kinds of trauma. I adore my clients and the work that I do. I think I am probably most known for my bleeding heart and mischievousness. Graffiti and plants cover the walls of my professional office like kudzu and provide a sacred space for those who find their heart in shambles. My most proud moments are when a client realizes their personal worth and value and no longer feels defined by their trauma.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
I think my favorite childhood memory would be riding go-karts with my cousins from sun up to sundown when we were little.
