Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristina Wynn.
Kristina, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up In Zion, IL, small town in N. Chicago with my grandmother. Church girl (C.O.G.I.C) background, sheltered life, but I always knew there was something special about me and that God had a bigger purpose or plan that I didn’t understand, but I think my family did. My aunt (Shoutout to Aunt Darlene), she put me in Classical piano lessons at age 5. I went to the Zion Concervatory of Music, where my Piano teacher, Mrs. Joanne Pekkarinen, saw my potential & really motivated me to be the best piano player player I could be. She taught me discipline and a skill that would go on to really change my life. I trained with her from 5-15 until my whole life changed November 19 2005, the only mother I knew, passed away. A month later I moved to Atlanta to live with my father and Atlanta has been my home since. I went to Tucker High School where I continued to play the piano for assemblies, meetings, and for the school. One of my friends nickname for me was “Superstar”, lol because she said I was gonna make it one day. (Shoutout to Jasmine) My senior year I joined the marching band (drumline) where my band teacher really encouraged me to think about going to an HBCU, specifically Clark, and so I did. I went to orientation and let’s just say, I FELL IN LOVE! Clark Atlanta University was everything to me so there was no doubt in my mind that that was the school for me! So I got a marching band and Jazz band scholarship and I attended Clark atlanta university as a Mass Media Arts Journalism Major. From there I continued to do music and network within the city of Atlanta. I started to get into songwriting scene and visiting studios, sitting in sessions, and really finding my own sound and voice. Before I knew it, I’m sitting in rooms with Monica, Ryan Leslie, Cee Lo, and some of the biggest names in the industry. I’ve always and will always be a student in the game so I soaked up so much knowledge from the best producers, songwriters, A&Rs, etc in the game. With that knowledge I found my voice and my identity in music. I’m versatile. There is no box for me. Whether it’s pop, RNB, gospel, country, rap, I can embody it all. Melodies and cadences are my biggest strengths because of my training in piano so I made myself an asset when I walk into the rooms. And now, I think it’s really time for me to step out and give my body of work. Show my versatility, and put my official mark on the industry.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has different been rocky. This industry is tough, and you REALLY have to know who you are, what you want, and how you want to get it. There’s been plenty of times where I’ve been super discouraged, disappointed. You hear so many times you’re “DOPE”, but “Dope’’ is NOT good enough! You wonder when it’s going to be your turn a lot. But you HAVE to have faith in Divine Timing & DONT STOP.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
So I’m a Songwriter/Classical Pianist. I write all genres from Pop to R&B, Gospel, hip hop, whatever the vibe calls for I bring that! I’m really know for my unique melody choices and cadences. I’ve worked with Independent Artists And Producers to Mainstream Chart Toping Producers And Artists. I’m so proud for my growth and the honor to even be in the room with some of the people I’ve worked with, seriously. I think what sets me apart is my energy first. Sessions with me are a whole experience because I believe the more authenticity you put into the song as you create it, the more the world will be able to relate and connect to it & enjoy your music.
How do you define success?
I define success as living in alignment with my purpose, consistently growing, and positively impacting others along the way. It’s not just about accomplishments or recognition, but about the fulfillment that comes from knowing I’m using my gifts to elevate myself and those around me. True success is waking up every day with passion, integrity, and peace of mind, knowing that I’m becoming the best version of myself while helping others do the same.
