Today we’d like to introduce you to Kymbra Li.
Hi Kymbra, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I moved to China to be a law professor and then accidentally became a rapping comedian. It started in 2015, and now in 2023, I am just starting to see success. This year, I created a viral hit web series parody called Uber Risk, which has garnered over 15 million views and 90,000 followers across platforms.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Every day is a struggle. The hardest thing to deal with for me right now in the entertainment industry is dealing with fake people who are opportunistic users and only want to work with you because of what you have to offer and not because they genuinely rock with you. I’ve had people try and block me from touring, they’ve stolen my work and tried to pass it off as their own and I also had a hard time convincing people to take me seriously as a musical artist because of my comedy background.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an award-winning content creator with dual law degrees. I created my original Uber Risk skit in March of this year and have developed three spin-off series – Risky Eats, Risky Jokes and Risky Bars, which focus on different cuisines, amateur comedians, and young hip hop artists respectively. I also manage a dog brand @EmaAndBoston, which produces talking dog content in the form of rap parodies and jokes. I’m most proud to run my own business and not have to be somebody’s employee. What sets me apart from others is that I have 100% talent combined with 100% hustle and I will never let anyone outwork me.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Belief. This is the single most important quality you need to be successful. Above all things, you must have a strong belief in yourself and what you’re doing.
