Today we’d like to introduce you to Lala Wimberly.
Hi Lala, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Back in 2014, while sitting still after surgery. The word GLOSS UP just popped in my brain after having a conversation with the most high about what I was going through at the moment. So I started using the word in my hashtags on social media and then I started adding GO HUSTLE to it as well. Not knowing exactly what I was going to do with GLOSS UP, I just kept saying and hashtagging it. I remember having a dream of fumbling around with lipsticks and immediately woke up and wrote it down and kept it in the back of my mind. Fast forward in the middle of the pandemic, sitting still again, I decided to get very creative. With everything going on in the world, I made it a requirement that everyone in my household would have a business, even the baby! So now I have a whole product line that includes a pink lipgloss named (GO HUSTLE), an eyelash Collection named (HUSTLEholic Eyelash Collection)
(3) eyelash styles name: HUSTLEHOLIC, RECESSION PROOF & CUT MYSELF A CHECK!!! And a mini washing machine to clean eyelashes and a lash shampoo on the way.
I also created an entire lipgloss line for my daughter (15) called DAZZLE ME AMANI and a hair and body butter line for my one-year-old called THE P D’IOR COLLECTION.
And that is why I call myself the GLOSS UP CEO.
GLOSS UP 💚 GO HUSTLE
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Not at all! Many setbacks! I’ve had days where I wouldn’t even won’t to put the work in for the vision I had stored in the back of my mind. I knew it would be lots of work, and if I don’t do it, it won’t get done. I still have those days. With creating and mixing my own product in my home. I have to write everything down in order to complete my daily task or else the day doesn’t go smooth. Writing down my task allows me to run my day and not let the day run me!! So now, I try to only put a small number amount of tasks to complete by the day, and trying not to get overwhelmed and tell myself to complete SMALL TASK DAILY! And to stop being so hard on myself. Still working on that part!!! But I’m on a journey with my daughters now because they get to grow up and watch their product line grow as well!!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m originally a Master’s Cosmetologist, licensed in 2010. Which is how I stepped into the beauty industry. I started modeling 15 years ago when my oldest daughter was one year old. I moved to Atlanta when she was around 5 and continued to model and work in hair salons. I’m a person who’s big on finances and saving money for rainy days, so I’m always thinking of a way to get more money and sometimes find myself staring into space thinking of a way to make some money as an entrepreneur, and that is where I call my a HUSTLEHholic because I’m always hustling, people in my family say I work too much, but as I said earlier, if I don’t do, who’s going to do it. I’m the boss so my job is never done. I’m proud of myself for not giving up on me, my babies or my dreams and goals. I still have so much more to do.
What are your plans for the future?
I just created an Etsy shop, on my way to amazon, for our products and my next steps are to get our products into beauty supply stores.
