Check Out Laurie Gooseff’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laurie Gooseff.

Laurie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As an artist, my passion for creativity has been with me for as long as I can remember. Art was always more than a hobby—it was a way for me to express myself and explore the world around me. I’ve always been inspired by bold, expressive styles. Artists like Matisse and Andy Warhol captured my imagination early on with their vibrant colors, exaggerated shapes, and fearless experimentation. Their innovative approaches continue to influence how I think about composition, color, and originality in my own work.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a completely smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been getting accepted into galleries and having my art recognized. Breaking into the art world and gaining visibility can be difficult, especially in such a competitive field

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Through years of experimenting with different mediums, I eventually discovered my true passion in mixed media and collage—which led me to the 3D paper collage work I create today. It all started with something simple: cutting circles by hand. I still value that process because of the time, care, and craftsmanship it requires. I still cut out each circle, but I use a die cut machine. In some cases, it seems to be just as tedious. But what truly excited me was the idea of layering those circles—playing with color, size, and depth to bring them to life. I began incorporating unconventional objects like shower curtain rings, sewing bobbins, spools, bottle caps—anything that could add dimension and elevate the paper circles into something sculptural. From there, I started building my compositions on surfaces like CDs, 45s, LPs, and coasters—each one becoming a base for a vibrant, tactile expression. It’s been a journey of curiosity and creativity, and I’ve found a niche that truly reflects who I am as an artist.

While I’ve become known for my signature circles, I’ve recently started exploring new directions—particularly with floral forms. It’s been a rewarding and playful process, evolving from monochromatic and layered circles to bold, multi-colored flowers in various shapes and sizes. The vibrant colors and added dimension bring a dynamic, textured feel to each piece.

There’s nothing quite like opening your inbox and seeing the words, “You have been selected!” Being chosen for a show—whether it’s a gallery exhibition, an online feature, or a juried event—is always an incredible honor. It’s a moment of validation and excitement that never gets old. One of the milestones I’m most proud of is being represented by dk Gallery. It’s not only a personal achievement but also a powerful affirmation of my work and vision as an artist. To know that others connect with what I create is deeply meaningful. There’s truly no greater feeling than imagining a piece I’ve poured my heart into hanging in someone’s home—becoming part of their environment and their story, bringing joy and inspiration for years to come.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
The art world is on the brink of significant change over the next decade. AI (artificial intelligence) will likely play a much bigger role—not just in how art is made, but also in how it’s bought, sold, and experienced. This shift could open new creative possibilities or raise tough questions about originality and value. That said, no matter how technology evolves, I believe there will always be something deeply meaningful about creating with your own hands. For me, art is a labor of love—each piece a personal expression that can’t be replicated by machines.
