Today we’d like to introduce you to Leslie Black
Hi Leslie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m a military brat. I was born in the Philippines and raised in Japan. My mother died on my 10th birthday and my father died shortly after when I was 14 from Cancer. I was raised by my grandmother after my parents passed then my maternal family members in South Carolina took my siblings and I in. I finished high school and college in South Carolina. I caught the acting bug in college when I was working in Columbia mall for a guy who was a theater major. He started a local soap opera drama series and asked me to be a part of it. I’ve been acting every since.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey has been long and hard. You have to be ok with constant rejection and understand God’s timing. Your time will come but only when God says its your turn.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an actress and I’m deeply invested in my artistry. My ability to tap into my truth has allowed me to excel in so many projects. I wear my heart on my sleeves and its showcased through my ability to evoke emotion through the characters I portray. One of the things I’m most proud of is storytelling. I recently launched a production company with my partner and I’m so proud to be able to to take ideas out of my heard and bring them into fruition.
My work ethic sets me apart from most. I don’t take any shortcuts I do the work and its allowed me to grow in ways that I could never imagine.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I had the biggest imagination growing up. It was really out of this world. I always thought BIG I wanted to achieve the unimaginable. I’m the second of 4 siblings and I was the one who always acted like mama bear. I wanted to be a writer growing up. It was my first love and my father used to help me put books together every time I wrote a story. In high school I found myself wanting to be a fashion designer. I was also a cheerleader in high school and had lots of friends.
