Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Ann Snyder.
Hi Lindsay Ann, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I found photography the way most people do; when their parents constantly want to document all your firsts and tell you to smile & say “cheese”. I love it for its capacity to freeze moments in time, to document moments that don’t even seem like moments worth capturing. I had everything from an I-zone instant polaroid camera, a Flip Video camera, point and digital shoot camera, and then ultimately buying my first DSLR camera in 2009.
I made the decision in 2019 to go after my dream of being a photographer leaning more into the live music photography genre & landing a photojournalist position with a worldwide digital music publication. I had hit the ground running with show coverage lined up for months and then March 2020 brought everything to a screeching halt.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
With the pandemic of 2020 inevitably canceling any and all live events, I knew I had to make a decision to reassess my photography direction to maintain a presence while continuing to build my brand. Inspired by another photographer, I decided to offer the “Front Porch Project” to try and bring some positivity to my community. This opportunity allowed families to receive five photos of my choosing, the freedom to “play the part” of being quarantined, or simply to have updated family portraits, all while maintaining social distancing requirements
While I had been offering these photos for free, I had also been transparent about my current work circumstances and allowed those participating in this project to make monetary donations to my cause to help offset the deficit of being out of work during that time. In the one month, I had the privilege of photographing over 200+ families in my county making it my biggest success of my career thus far. As a result, I was named “Best of Cherokee 2021: Photographer” in my county and have had my work published/featured in multiple publications.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am currently a lifestyle and live music photographer. This includes photographing individuals, couples, families, & musicians. Those who work with me can expect bold, colorful, and emotive art that shares the storytelling experience we’ve created together.
As an artist, I naturally see things in a different perspective. Art is all around us, and I am always looking for the creative elements in the simplest & unlikely things. I want to document life as it’s happening. I want to capture what most people wouldn’t think they are creating by simply being present and in the moment.
Photography is like a visual autobiography. It’s something we can tangibly leave behind and pass onto the future generations. That is what propels my passion to do what I do. I want anything that I create to be as authentic as possible and invoke internal sentiment. Whether it’s a family portrait or a milestone, I want that message to be conveyed in my work.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t believe luck is a contributing factor in my life or my business because the culture I grew up in was that you have to work hard for what you want and that life doesn’t give you any handouts. I’ve never depended on anyone for my success but myself because I am the solely responsible for my own success. Although life can be frustrating at times, keeping that in mind allows me to stay humble in my thoughts and my attitude to keep moving forward.
