Check Out Lindsay Giedl’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Giedl

Hi Lindsay, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I began dance at the age of two in a small South Georgia town. This is where I discovered my love for dance! Fast forward to a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from the University of Georgia, I now find myself as the owner of The Studio Athens, an Adjunct Instructor for the UGA Dance Department, my ninth season with the Joffrey Ballet School as well as freelancing around the country!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I think any type of artist will tell you it’s a continual hustle. We are always trying to redefine our craft and artistry. The dance world is ever changing and honestly I am just trying to keep up with the trends while also promoting change in the industry. I find it hard to balance it all while also keeping my love for dance alive. Sometimes I feel like I am drowning in tendu’s and then the next I am so inspired by the work I am creating. I hope we all find balance one day!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My work has taken an interesting journey in the last couple of years. I would normally consider myself a contemporary dance teacher and choreographer but in the last few years I have taken a deep dive in Jazz dance spending my summers teaching for the Joffrey Ballet School to explore traditional jazz dance and social jazz dance. I also have had the opportunity to choreograph for the University of Georgia Theatre and Opera Department making my just choreographic debut with them last season in “Carmen” (March 2024) and “Little Shop of Horrors” (April 2024). I have had the pleasure to be asked back this semester to choreograph “9 to 5” opening next weekend with Associate Choreographer Hope Brown. This time around, we have taken on the approach of pedestrian style movement in juxtaposition to 80’s rock and hair band trends. Unlike “Carmen” or “Little Shop of Horrors” this is a large group production with a cast of 20 and has 10 large production group numbers!

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
People can collaborate with me through creating work within the Athens, Georgia dance scene as well as follow me on social media @lindsgiedl.
