Today we’d like to introduce you to Love Atiya.
Hi Love Atiya, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My story started in Queens, New York. I was homeschooled from the 1st – 12th grade by my parents and moved to ATL in 2016 to pursue my acting career. I dove deep into my animal activism work and began working with PETA on their anti-circus campaigns.
My move to Atlanta also catapulted me into the realm of sex education after a Tiktok video I recorded on my couch about my experience “losing” my virginity went viral.
Ever since then, I’ve been known for making fun and educational sex-positive content and am now preparing for the launch of season 2 of my intimacy podcast THE LOVE ATIYA EXPERIENCE where I talk about all things taboo in hopes to end the shame and stigma surrounding sexual health and wellness.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has been far from smooth. Having to battle censorship and trolls have probably been my two largest battles. Sometimes it feels like being a black woman who talks freely about sex is a crime, but I refuse to let that stop me. The censorship on Tiktok and Instagram, and sometimes even YouTube was one of the main factors in why I started my own podcast. I felt like I needed a safe space to be able to talk about things I’d experienced without judgment and hopefully make a positive impact in someone’s life even if that impact is just showing them that they are not alone.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
What sets me apart from the others is that there literally isn’t anyone else out there like me. I am not for everybody, and I love that about myself. My podcast is a safe space where I give advice to those who submit it, I share really intimate (and sometimes embarrassing) stories about things I experienced when I was dating and sexual experiences I learned from that led me on my celibacy journey. I think another thing that sets me apart is my authenticity and transparency. I am not scared to share things that others might be ashamed of. My goal is to inspire others to figure out what “Sexual liberation” means to them. For me, I thought it meant having multiple sexual partners. Then I realized the partners I was choosing didn’t make me feel liberated at all. I’m still on the journey of figuring out what makes me feel liberated sexually, and I love that I get to help others along the way.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
This journey of utter transparency and sharing on my podcast has taught me to trust myself and to see myself. I finally see my light. I finally feel a great sense of compassion for myself and everything I’ve been through and grown through. I get to trust that I can talk about something that was once so triggering and because I’ve created such a safe space for myself and my “besties” I can talk about this “something” without having a physical reaction. I get to trust that everything I share is shared for a reason and with a greater purpose to help inspire my listeners. Another major lesson has been everything truly has happened for a reason and was divinely timed, no matter how messed up it may have felt in the moment. I’ve learned to turn my tragedy into triumph.
