Today we’d like to introduce you to M. Marisa.

Hi M., thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello! First off, I want to say thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to interview with you guys! Well…I’m an upcoming R&B singer/songwriter. I’m originally from a small town located in South Georgia called Cairo which is 3 hours and some change away from Atlanta. I moved to Atlanta last year in August after I graduated college back in May of last year with my Bachelor’s in Elementary Education. I wanted to move away and venture out on my own and start a new and better life for myself and I knew back where I’m from it wasn’t nothing there and I was ready and needed a change. I have been singing since I was a little girl, but I been recording and writing music since 2019. Singing has always been one of my passions & a hidden talent of mine. It’s crazy because a lot of people don’t know I can sing including family. I write music as an outlet for myself to express what I’m feeling or what I’m going through. It’s like my diary of unsaid thoughts and emotions. I enjoy writing and recording music. I was excited about moving to Atlanta and venturing out with my hidden talent and be exposed to more and do more with my artistry. I recently released a new song February 10th called “All Night” which is off an upcoming EP I am working on this year!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Honestly, the road has been fun and exciting, but I have faced some challenges along the way. Where I’m from, people only support you if you’re “popular” or “well-known”, so being that girl who isn’t neither, it was hard to get people to support and notice me, but it never stopped me to keep going. It actually gave me motivation to keep striving because I knew I was talented and I knew there were definitely people out there supporting & rooting me on watching from somewhere. I also had to change the dynamics of things to receive better results that I was desiring and deserved to achieve.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have two careers actually haha. I’m currently a full-time 4th Grade Reading and Social Studies teacher. By the way, this is my first year as a teacher. Teaching is cool & fun. I love knowledge and I’m a lowkey nerd, so I love educating myself and others. When I’m not teaching, I’m a singer! I’m always singing ALL THE TIME, LOL! I’m always thinking of random lyrics in my head and I’m always listening to beats online that either people send me or I search online myself. I’m really proud of being able to switch up my roles and keep a steady life while doing so.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t consider anything with “luck”. I always feel like just keeping God first in my life and everything I do that’s how I end up blessed!
