Today we’d like to introduce you to “RYO”.
Hi RYO, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was introduced to music by my uncle who is a Trinidadian producer/ music artist himself by the name of Chris Paul aka AMG CP. He showed me everything about recording and walked me through the Do’s and Don’t’s. He discovered I was not like every other kid and that I have a gift of really knowing how to rap and being lyrical and that was due to me always loving to write. I would write anything growing up such as poems, rap songs, small books, etc… and perform it to anybody. Due to me also coming From a Colombian background as a Afro-Latino, I would also always made sure I wrote 3-4 bars in Spanish and plug it into my music. Me being versatile is what made me stick out. I always stayed consistent, humble, hungry and respectful. I recently shot my first music video this past May of 2022 in San Juan Puerto Rico. I ended up making huge connections with the city of San Juan due to me living there back in 2019. I did nothing but Network and grind every day with Puerto Rican music artists and it all started coming together. The video recently shot by TheClassicLp was for my first single “That Foreign Shit” which is a track talking about my background and what Cartagena Colombia is like in the ruff parts of the area and discussing real life topics that are relatable to millionaires or millionaire mindsets. I also have been branding my name “Ryo With a Y in The Middle” for about 6 years now. It’s very unique to my fans because I am the only “Rio” with a Y in the middle. Plan to drop a new single in August. I’m always creating and staying Consistent with my craft.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it has not been a smooth road. I have always stayed consistent with my music but it’s a struggle losing people that you really love and the ones who grew up with you. Sometimes as you grow and get more in tune with your goal, others start to envy you. That is really the only struggle that I go through while on my music path. Being an independent artist like myself requires a high budget and a lot of investing in your craft. That is not necessarily a struggle because investing in yourself is the key to win but I would say losing people on the way up is definitely a struggle for me as a genuine artist.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a studio recording/ music artist who raps in both English and Spanish due to me being Colombian but also grew up on the east side of Atlanta. I specialize in rapping about certain topics that many successful people can relate to. I also specialize in implanting Spanish lyrics that are about 2-5 bars in most songs that I make. My creative artist name is what sets me apart from others. There are plenty of “Rio’s” out there but being that my official artist name is “RYO” With a Y in The Middle is just so unique to the audience or anybody I come across. They will always say, “wow” I truly don’t know another Rio with a Y in the middle. I am most proud of my genuine and authentic personality and attitude. That stands out the most about me. I grew up loving everything and everyone and never truly encountered any negativity and if so. I would always dismiss myself. I am most proud of me truly being a people person and truly being there for the people.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Networking for me is really simple. It starts with attitude. Respect and confidence. I have all three of those qualities and make sure I speak to someone different every single day. I’m a music artist. So I make it known every time I come across an individual. My advice is to never be scared to approach someone on telling them who are. Nothing is going to come to you or drop in your hand. Every day you wake up, you have to make sure you go get whatever you are looking for or trying to achieve and at least get closer to that goal every day. Networking starts with personality.
