Today we’d like to introduce you to Marlo Meyerhofer.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always enjoyed being physically active and learning about the incredible capabilities of our bodies. My background includes gymnastics, dance and spinal focus medical device consulting. When first introduced to yoga 12+ years ago, I found it to be surprisingly great exercise. The more I learned the more I loved it. Friends encouraged me to teach. So Backbends & Brews started in my basement with yoga classes & home-brewed Kombucha “brew time” after class. Yoga is all about giving back and sharing knowledge so what better way to do that than to donate to charity! Backbends & Brews would not exist if it wasn’t for all the wonderfully supportive yogi friends who come to class, recommend and share. I have been so fortunate to get to help local businesses by bringing awareness through events. Plus, we have learned of so many great charity’s to support.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It’s definitely taught me to truly “go with the flow”. It’s easy to get discouraged when hosting classes or events and only a small amount of people come. But, I have learned that usually those are truly the people meant to be there at that moment! Also, sometimes it takes time to find what schedules work for others. So, I try to enjoy that moment and keep trying. Whether a large or small group, there is always something to be learned.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
One of the things I love about teaching is the ability to be creative. I think my joy for dance is expressed in my teaching style. I love that we link movement with our breath and to the beat of music or nature. I also enjoy a challenge and yoga truly has something beneficial for everyone. You can make it as hard or easy as you need that day. I so enjoy helping people find strength to do things they didn’t realize they had. Or leading people to find peace within themselves. I feel so proud and joyful in those moments when after lead breathwork & meditation in savasana you can literally feel the calm, peace & stillness from everyone.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
There have been so many supporters who have made Backbends and Brews LLC what it is today. I want to thank my husband, Mark and fun kids, Martha & Marlin who are wonderful sports for allowing me to “test” classes on them, joining, encouraging, and time sacrificing in the name of B&B.
