Today we’d like to introduce you to Marshae’ Conley
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
For as far as my memory goes back, my appearance captured eyes when I was in the fifth grade. I am a reserved person at my initial approach which comes off as shy and quiet to many so the manner and swagger I possess prior to knowing who I actually am was what allured others. Before transitioning into high school, I would spend most of my time after school, with my late grandmother. She is actually where my inspiration for style and creativity started, when it comes to fashion. Most people would say “Fashion is not what you wear but how you wear it” , I believe it’s both and some more but it boils down to being your authentic self in whatever you have on. Art is subjective and it has no limits. It’s out of the box and beyond the usual. I’ve always, since a child, have been very selective on standing out and my parents provided me with the mindset to be able to be as artistic as I am. Which brings me to my next inspiration. Mom and Dad. As far as inheritance in skills, I’m hands on because they are as well with whatever they desire to create. I didn’t always see myself as a designer and still find it hard to believe most days in a modest way.. Dreams come true.. I plan on taking on the world by storm with more than fashion. This is just the door that opened first in all of my artistic creativity I have to offer. From the hood to Hollywood, one day. I plan to document my journey along the way starting from May 2020 when I decided I wanted to start a brand. The brand will be fashionable and more in years to come. I was in a low income based unit 7 years feeling stuck every time I looked out of the window from my high rise building but I thank God my mind didn’t get trapped and I stayed innovative, as well as prevailed to reach countless opportunities to expand TRVPRVCH. I officially started my brand June 6,2020 and now I’ve made my way to where I thought it would take longer to come.. Catch me in New York Fashion Week Sept 13th 2024.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been an easy journey, mentally physically and financially. The most I struggle with is acceptance. When you decide to dedicate yourself to something, you also must accept that every day week month or even year wont be the same. Some days will be harder than others, you’ll question everything including yourself and the easiest option has always been either accepting that by taking it one day at a time or just giving up. Giving up isn’t an option for me. I used to think someone should come and discover me. First of all, being the reserved person I am, I had to crawl out of my shell and open up to talking more in order to be seen beyond my external style. There’s beauty in every obstacle whether big or small, they each helped me grow. The discouragement, the negative thoughts/opinions, the days you’re down to your last trying to figure out what you’re going to eat but 2 clients hit you up out of the blue requesting some customs- is what makes me thrive, is what ignites my passion to keep creating. I love the hustle and I love what I do when it comes to crafting. It’s what I live for.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a seamstress but more known as a fashion designer who specializes in using up-cycled materials for custom made pieces. What sets me apart besides my dope personality and style is the fact that I rock clothes I refurbished from local thrift stores around the city. The first 2 years I did everything by hand because I was afraid of actually having to sit down and learn how to use a sewing machine on my own. I am most proud of remaining my creative self throughout life hardships and growing through them. After trying some of every skill or a typical 9-5 profession, I became exhausted on possibly not ever finding my purpose to one day finding it and being dedicated enough to stick with it despite the challenges thrown at me.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Honestly, I’m a very spiritual person so anything I do indulge in is 97% on a spiritual basis. I’d watch sermons from time to time or simple motivational reels/videos within social media. Prayer and isolation works best for me since I was about 10 years old to now. I’d need time to tap into things I didn’t feel I could fully unless I got that time for myself
