Today we’d like to introduce you to Martene Nadeau.
Hi Martene, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started in retail banking over 30 years ago because I needed a job and my Dad had friends that sat on the board of a small community bank. Never dreaming I would enjoy being a banker. Quickly realizing, I have the natural ability to help people and help people understand money. I spent years in multiple areas of the bank and thrived on the investment, finance side as a leadership coach helping bankers have conversation with their clients about future finances. Having banker hours, it allowed me flexibility and consistent days off, I could be at home with my family. Guiding my 3 children with the importance of credit, money, retirement and home ownership. Understanding that I am a coach, educator, connector people and money, I knew it was time for me to venture to the mortgage side and the power of building wealth through real estate.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road. I had to learn a trade that I never saw myself in as a young woman, Growing my art of conversation, which comes easy to me, into a purposeful conversation that help people, took years to accomplish. Finding the right company with values that aligned with mine, was not always easy. There have been a few times that I knew it wasn’t the right fit for me not matter how I tried to succeed. That is a tough lesson to learn that even if you are working hard, someone may be holding you back. I was down-sized from a job that I loved and it crushed me. That forced me into digging deeper, thinking outside the box and rebranding myself into a mortgage educator/broker. Personally, I went through a divorce and found myself as a single parent providing for 3 teenagers to create a loving, safe home.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a mortgage broker. However, I consider myself a mortgage educator. I specialize in creating the path to home ownership, especially for women. Educating people of all walks of life about the mortgage process, finances, credit and building wealth. To me, you are not just a number or a purchase, this is a relationship for life. I am different because I am transparent, comfortable to talk to and I truly want to get to know you, understand your goal and how I can fit into that picture. My greatest accomplishment is raising my 3 wonderful children, who are now adults serving in the military. My adventures from being a single mom allows me to better relate to both younger first-time home buyers, and a big majority of single women. I take pride that I can bring my life experiences to the table and help others make better financial decisions. I am known to have easy conversations that translate into a seamless mortgage process. I care and will make sure that I am doing the absolute best thing for you and your family.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
That is a tough question, I love the quote by Thomas Jefferson “I’m a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it.” I believe in hard work but loving what you do makes you lucky. Don’t get me wrong, I have been at the right place at the right time, is that luck? Some say it is.
