Check Out Masika George’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Masika George.

Masika, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always dreamed of entrepreneurship, fascinated with the idea of building something from the ground up, something that brings joy to others. We saw a gap in our community for a fun, family-friendly activity. The COVID lockdown really highlighted that need. It was a time when people were yearning for safe, social activities; this sparked the flame that ignited Swing Mini Golf.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Shopping for the perfect location was a marathon in itself. We finally landed on a fantastic spot – a former used car lot on a major stretch. I naively thought once we closed on the property, it would be smooth sailing from there. But my entrepreneurship journey didn’t work that way! We faced delays from storms, blistering heat slowing down construction, and even material shortages due to the global supply chain issues. There were contractor hiccups and countless sleepless nights, but we persevered through it all.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m actually a retired stay-at-home mom, but those years were filled with valuable experiences that translate perfectly into my role as co-owner/creative director at Swing Mini Golf. From planning over-the-top birthday parties for my now-grown daughters to decorating our home (I love Martha Stewart).

I’ve always had a knack for ‘making things cute.’ Now, I get to channel that creativity into designing an immersive and whimsical experience for our guests. While I’d love to decorate all day, running a business requires flexibility. So, I’m also the content creator, the administrative assistant and the occasional toilet scrubber, it comes with the territory! But the most rewarding part is being the hostess with the mostess and welcoming families to create lasting memories at Swing mini golf.”

One of the things that makes Swing mini golf truly special is its originality. I’ve never been interested in being a copycat. Swing is all about creating a unique and unforgettable experience that you won’t find anywhere else.

One of the things that makes me most proud about Swing Mini Golf is the incredible feedback we receive from our customers. Seeing all the five-star reviews on Google that mention the fun atmosphere, great customer service, and clean restrooms is an amazing feeling. It means that all the effort we put into creating a unique and enjoyable experience at Swing is resonating with our guests.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I’m definitely not the queen of networking, But I’ve learned that mentorship can come in many forms. In my case, even though I’ve never met Martha Stewart, her work and philosophy have always been a huge source of inspiration. She’s kind of like my ‘mentor in my head,’ encouraging me to embrace creativity and make things beautiful!

Also, the rise of social media has been a game-changer for mentorship. There are so many talented and knowledgeable people out there sharing information and guidance for free. It’s a fantastic resource for anyone looking to learn and grow, regardless of their location or network.
