Today we’d like to introduce you to Meghana Reddy.
Hi Meghana, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am originally from India. I loved art and design for as long as I can remember. I started painting with watercolors, acrylic, and oil at the age of six. Ever since then, I loved creating and spilling my imagination on a canvas. In 2013, I graduated with an undergrad degree in Visual Communication, where I specialized in animation and photography, I then started my first job at the end of 2013 in an advertising company as a designer and illustrator. I worked for 3.5 years and got to work on nationwide projects with the most notable clients in India.
I have always been passionate about creating art and innovating new designs that are unique in the market. I love to keep myself updated with all the latest technology involved in the design industry.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think when you have a big idea or a goal that you want to work towards, it is definitely going to be a bumpy ride. There are going to be many challenges along the way. For me, it was the struggle in achieving a work-life balance. As a workaholic, I would dedicate all my time to working and very little to my lifestyle, which I have fixed over the last couple of months.
I have found a good balance between work life and my personal life and it has helped me make better choices and completely transformed the way I function in the workplace. I have definitely found myself to be way more productive.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
In 2016, I flew all the way to Savannah and did my Master’s in Animation at Savannah College of Art and Design. After graduation, I moved to Atlanta, Georgia, to work with the award-winning animation company ‘Primal Screen’. At Primal Screen, I worked as a 2D and 3D artist. I worked on projects for PBS Kids and Nickelodeon, where my main role as a 2D artist included background design, character design, color, prop, and asset design. I got to experiment with various styles of illustrations for each project. I later signed on two 3D animated films with the same company called ‘Elf Pets: Santa’s Reindeer Rescue’ and ‘Elf Pets: Fox Cub’s Christmas Tale’. These films are currently streaming on Netflix. After my contract with Primal Screen, I went on to work for an Emmy award-winning production company called ‘Titmouse Animation’, where I had the privilege to work as a background and prop artist on season 2 of ‘Bless the Harts’, a comedy animated series currently streaming on HULU and Fox Animation. The series is a joint production between Fox Entertainment and 20th Television, one of the biggest production companies in the world. After my contract with Titmouse Animation, I worked with Shadow Machine, a Los Angeles-based animation production company and now I am currently working with a New York-based company called Amplify, where I create animations and illustrated children’s books for educational purposes. The various shows I have worked for during my work experience have been featured in top publications, such as Variety, Hollywood Reporter, Deadline, The New York Post, The Guardian, Washington Post, etc.
Apart from my day job, I love to work on my personal projects, where I have created illustrations for various packaging designs and merchandise. My personal projects have been featured in several publications across the globe like ‘The Times of India’, ‘The Hindu’ (largest English language newspapers in the world), ‘Favorite Design’ (a French-based magazine), ‘Packaging of the World’ (the largest packaging design platform in the world), ‘The Talented Indian’, etc.
I am currently learning and indulging more in the 3D world, where I am touching topics like virtual, augmented, and mixed reality. I am laying out my goals as to the different things I want to accomplish in this world in the near future. I hope to connect with more people in the industry and collaborate on big designs and innovations.
The one thing that sets me apart from others is my adaptability in regard to art styles. I can easily and quickly adapt to various styles of illustration depending on the client’s needs, whether it’s photorealistic, stylized, cartoony, anime, or even a combination of styles. I have trained myself in my free time to practice various styles to cater to multiple clients around the world.
