Check Out Mikayla “XO MIKA” Hespe’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mikayla “XO MIKA” Hespe.

Hi XO, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi! my name is Mikayla but i prefer Mika or X.O, I was born and raised in california and had an amazing childhood. I was a nana’s girl and she passed away when i was 15, it felt like i lost a piece of me and I still am trying to heal to this day. My mom and I had on and off arguments once I got older and when i turned 21, she took my little brother and up and left the state and told me to figure it out, the day of my 21st birthday.. Since then I have moved over 12 times in the last 4 years and in 4 different states. I am doing music for myself because I know this is what I want to do for me! I would hope my story inspires people to never give up no matter how lonely you feel and to pursuit your dreams even if it draws people close to you in your life away. I am so grateful for all of the music friendships i’ve created and I want to be an example showing people that YOU can do this too!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I haven’t spoken to my brother in 3 years, I just recently saw what he looks like, I haven’t heard I love you from my mom for years as well but somehow i still try my best to keep a smile on my face, I know my nana in heaven is so proud of me for pushing for my dreams even when it felt like my whole world fell apart, throughout all of the 12 moves my cat Floff has been by my side every step of the way. I also forgot to mention when I was bullied in high school because I always let people’s opinions and words affect me, even to this day they still can but I have built a strong shell to protect myself and put my emotions into music!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a singer/songwriter and I am know for my melodies! I have a very keen music ear and can come up with a melody within two seconds of hearing a beat, I enjoy expressing to the world real and raw emotion. I’m also very versatile when it comes to genres, I can never stick to one style!

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I want anyone reading this to take their passion seriously! Whether it’s cooking, singing, rapping, painting, and/or crafting, you CAN do it! Don’t do it for approval do it because YOU love it and because it makes YOU happy.
