Today we’d like to introduce you to Mikela Hallmark.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always loved supporting people. I was the one in school that friends would come to to share their problems. But, I didn’t think I could go through more than four years of undergrad and so this is actually my second career. I started out in communication and marketing, but I had friends who had gone to graduate school for counseling and I was so jealous when I would hear their stories. I would just feel so alive at the thought of supporting people like that as my job. You hear people talk about finding a career doing something that they would do for free and this really does feel like that for me. I’m blessed. Throughout the years, my own emotional hardship and pain have given me even more insight and showing up for clients and supporting them in a genuine way.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Becoming a therapist has certainly been a journey. The jobs when you first get out of school can be quite tough and the hours are rough. But ultimately, I’ve been blessed to find my groove working with situations and people that I am absolutely honored to work with.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize working with high achievers dealing with stress related to work life home life or relationships. A lot of the people I see are successful in their careers. They’re entrepreneurs. They’re CEOs. They’re in director roles or manager roles. And despite the fact that they’ve always been able to find solutions and figure things out in our lives, they’re starting to feel disconnected, anxious, overwhelmed, or just not happy in their lives. I helped them find a new way of approaching life. Moving away from shame base and perfectionism based expectations of themselves, and moving towards genuine connection with itself that ultimately allows you to thrive.
With that said we’ve been busy over the years and so I have the honor of bringing on other therapists who are just as passionate about providing quality care for our community. We prioritize specializing in what we do. And that means we go beyond just the normal training that every therapist is required to take, and we get specialty trainings to help us be able to provide excellent care to our clients.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
It’s interesting to observe how some of the most random things can impact your experience in business and in your career. When Covid impacted the world and created a lot of chaos, I wasn’t sure if our practice would survive. So many businesses were suffering. Ultimately, a lot of people reached out for counseling and that was so great that we were able to show up and support them.
