Today we’d like to introduce you to Nadia Abdussalaam.
Hi Nadia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Nadia Abdussalaam, and I am a professional hairstylist with a passion for creating beautiful hair while prioritizing healthy hair care. My hair and life journey began in South Carolina and later transitioned to Atlanta, where I continued to grow both personally and professionally.
I began my formal training at Paul Mitchell Hair School in 2010. After completing my education, I worked as an assistant in a weave shop for three years, gaining valuable hands-on experience and strengthening my technical skills. From there, I stepped out on my own as a solo stylist, working through salon booth rental and later from home.
Throughout this journey, I balanced entrepreneurship while becoming a wife and mother, remaining committed to my craft and personal growth. Today, I continue to do what I love—keeping God first, creating hair as an art form, and maintaining a strong focus on healthy hair care for every client I serve.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth ride. Along the way, I learned that setting boundaries is essential—not only with clients, but between personal life and work life. In the early stages of my business, I was often focused on pleasing everyone who sat in my chair. I didn’t yet understand that everyone is not meant to be a long-term client, and that no matter how hard you try, some people simply cannot be pleased—and that’s okay.
Through this journey, I also learned an important life lesson: everyone has a season. I experienced the loss of people I once believed were friends, only to realize that some were connected to me because I struggled to say no. When I began standing firm, setting limits, and honoring my time and worth, those relationships changed.
That season taught me strength, self-respect, and confidence. Learning to say no was not about being unkind—it was about protecting my peace, my purpose, and the business God entrusted me with.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a hairstylist who specializes in healthy hair care, weaves, cuts, and color. I take great pride in creating styles that not only look beautiful, but also protect and strengthen your natural hair. I’m often told that my sew-ins are long-lasting and extremely natural-looking, which means a lot to me because quality and care are always my top priorities.
My passion goes beyond styling—I truly love helping my clients maintain healthy, growing hair and a nourished scalp, even while wearing protective styles. Education, consistency, and trust are all part of my process.
One of ex my greatest accomplishments is having clients who have been with me since the very beginning of my independent hair journey. Over time, we’ve built more than stylist-client relationships—we’ve built family-like bonds, rooted in trust, respect for my business, and mutual growth. I’m grateful that many of my clients have trusted my process and continue to grow alongside me, and I value how much I’ve learned from them as well.
What truly sets me apart is my heart. I’m a sweet, genuine person who truly cares. Whether you’re a longtime client or a complete stranger needing hair advice, I’m always willing to help. I’ll educate you, encourage you, and cheer you on—because your confidence and hair health matter to me.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
Above all, I give all glory and honor to the Most High. Without God, nothing is possible. I am still learning, still growing, and still evolving through this journey called life—and I’m grateful for every lesson along the way.
I also want to give special thanks to my hairstylist friend Keara, who has always poured positivity into me and believed in me even during moments when I struggled to believe in myself. Her encouragement and advice have meant more than words can express.
To my husband, thank you for continuously pushing me to run my business like a business and for holding me accountable to my goals. Your support and guidance have helped shape the woman and entrepreneur I am becoming.
To my sisters, especially Maliha—thank you for being my first models, letting me practice, and loving me through all my trial-and-error moments. Those early days laid the foundation for everything I do now.
I’m also deeply thankful for my prayer warriors who became family, Kristen and Sky. Whenever I feel lost—whether in business or in life—you both never hesitate to speak truth with love, pray with me, and help guide me back to clarity.
There are so many people who have influenced my life in meaningful ways—some from the beginning and some along the way—and I am truly grateful for everyone who continues to support me throughout this journey. Even if I haven’t mentioned your name, please know that your presence, encouragement, and belief in me do not go unnoticed.
This journey is still unfolding, and I thank God and every person who continues to walk alongside me as I grow.
