Check Out Nandi Dawson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nandi Dawson.

Hi Nandi, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am a screenplay writer who has been writing for a little over a year. I started as a key production assistant and worked my way up to a first AD. I took a leap and transitioned to writing, the career I actually wanted. So far I have taught writing classes, written for high clients in the social media and streaming world, and wrote screenplays for clients who were Executive producers of previous projects I’ve worked on. Today I focus on vertical micro dramas and social media content. As far as teaching, I use my social media platform to encourage writers to continue writing and inspire new writers to join in. Im based in Atlanta and go by Big Nandi….not the little.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of my major struggles along the way was taking that leap to become a full time writer. My fear was loosing the consistent money from working on gigs as an AD. Once I finally made the move I had to stop taking gigs stopping my stream of income. There was nothing left to do but write. God put in my spirit to do so and I felt crazy but I did it. My first script helped me bounce back financially in a way I did not expect. Another struggle was understanding the culture of pitching myself as a writer with no experience and no resume. It’s completely different than finding a gig as an AD. I had to use the resources from my old job to help me with my new career. It worked! Word traveled and the work kept coming.
