Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Shell
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve worked in a lot of situations that just didn’t fit. From each job I learned and gained valuable skills, but something was missing for me. I’ve always worked too hard and too much which took a toll on my mental health. When I lost my transportation to my studio manager job it gave me the push I needed to set out on my own. This gave me much needed flexibility with much higher reward. It also allowed me to focus my energy and creativity into what I really wanted to do which was photographing newborns.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been a little difficult. The business I started is an in-home photography service which is all travel, but I didn’t have a car. I was also broke. I had to use rental services and spend half the cost of the appointment for the car. I also have had several situations where the previous user didn’t return the car or the car wasn’t working causing me to have to find last minute solutions which was so stressful. Using this method did help me grow the business and buy a car to get to more appointments.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a photographer. I specialize in newborn photography for babies 5-15 days old. I provide an in-home service that brings a studio experience to the homes of my customers. My customers have recently given birth some have had c-sections and some have had difficult deliveries. None of them are very mobile so I love being able to allow new moms to be as comfortable as possible while still getting quality newborn portraits
