Today we’d like to introduce you to Norica Canty.
Hi Norica, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
It all started when I begin to go through a bad breakup, luckily I had been preparing myself for the break up and was in therapy. My therapist gave me some of the best advice that I could have ever received at the time. She said, find what makes you happy OUTSIDE of a relationship. With this one piece of advice, I begin to read and network with like minded people. This allowed me to blossom outside of things that I only thought of. I ended up meeting a really beautiful realtor who assistance me in obtaining two rental properties. After the second rental property was completed and rented, I thanked her buy taking her out to dinner. She asked what I was going to do next? My reply was that I wanted to do something in which I could make money everyday. My realtor then suggested that I get into the vending business. She and I both begin to cheer because we felt and if we had nailed the day! She immediately called a guy that told me to bring him XXX amount of dollars and he will sell me two vending machines and a locations. The very next day I was in business! My enjoyment of people and vending lead me to be able to go from 1-19 vending machines in just over a year.
One day while trying to decide how to advertise vending machine business on buses and benches, I speak with a representative who tells me to join my local chamber of commerce. So I do. I end up meeting a really good friend and now mentor. During one of our conversation, he says what’s next for you? I was honest when I said I don’t know what you mean?? He said there is more for you then just selling junk food. It was then that I begin to think, the seed had officially been planted. What can I do? A grocery store became the obvious solution to
not just selling junk food and also being able to see fresh salads, sandwiches, and pastries. This is when Nori Market came to life.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
This has certainly not been a smooth road for me.
I went through a breakup.
I lost my job.
I lost two of my best friends.
Since this was my first time starting a brick and mortar business, there were additional expenses that I was not prepared.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My 9-5 job is a Cloud Engineer.
I specialize in Salesforce.
I am most proud of my vending machine business, Canty’s Candies and Canteen.
This is my first business that has actually made money.
It makes me feel good that my family has a business with our names on it.
I am training my first born niece to be able to take over the business once its time.
Canty’s Candies and Canteen has top notch customer service, rapport building, samples, and suggestion boxes.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was known as the wild child. I was certainly the child that my mom and dad worried about. I was arrested at 17, flunked twice in high school, and had multiple physical confrontations. Angry.
Outside of that, I loved to party, hang out, and eat pizza. I still love to eat pizza.
Even though I used to have major issues with my mom and dad to the point where we even stopped speaking for 20 year, that relationship has been repaired. Also, moving forward, I pour an excessive amount of love into my 5 nieces/nephews and brother./sister.
I am extremely interested farming, gardening, owning my own animals and farm equipment.
A lot of my focus goes into learning to grow my own food.
My stretch goal is to be able to sell the food that I grow in my grocery store.
