Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Cabbin.
Hi Paul, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my music journey playing keyboards and drums in church, and that’s where my passion for music began. While pursuing a degree in Audio Engineering, I started selling beats online and continued doing so while working in LA. This allowed me to connect with many people and gain exposure. Eventually, I transitioned to selling sample packs, which led to more placements and collaborations with some of the top producers and creators in the industry. I feel truly blessed to be where I am today.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like any industry, there are ups and downs, but COVID-19 had a particularly significant impact on me. It hit right around the time I signed my publishing deal with Warner Chappell Music, which slowed down the momentum I had been building. However, I was still able to land placements, although it set me back a bit. Overall, I have a great team of people around me, and things have been pretty smooth sailing.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I suppose you could say that my claim to fame is my remakes, or interpolations, of popular tracks. While I do have plenty of original records that aren’t flips, this is what I am most well-known for. However, I am also recognized for my beats, sample packs, and keyboard playing, depending on who you ask. What I’m most proud of, though, is my ability to always be willing to learn and adapt. The music industry is constantly evolving, and the fact that I am still relevant and useful is something that truly sets me apart.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I appreciate the diversity out here without sounding offensive. Coming from California, it wasn’t something I was accustomed to. However, if I had to choose something I’m not fond of, it would probably be the weather. I’m not a fan of rain, but I’m learning to appreciate the changing seasons. It’s a work in progress!
