Today we’d like to introduce you to Raven Beard.
Hi Raven, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Raven and I mostly go by my nickname Rae. I’m an Atlanta native, born and raised in Decatur, Ga. I have always been interested in the arts, drawings, paintings, museums, and sculptures, but never recognized my own crafts. Eight years ago I decided to pick up a vintage camera and began shooting. I loved the idea of capturing an image in time, creating a memory.
December 2016, I purchased my camera and haven’t put it down since. I love meeting new people and collaborating with different creatives in Atlanta. What started out as a hobby has become my newfound love and passion. I’m loving this new journey that I’m on and I can’t wait to share my gifts with the world.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This road hasn’t been an easy road. This photography journey teaches you a lot. How to interact with people, how to set boundaries. There have been times where I was scheduled to complete a photoshoot for a concept that I was working on, and I was stood up with no call or explanation. This happened multiple times. These instances had deterred me from shooting, however it taught me how to deal with disappointments, and also how to operate my business better and how to navigate dealing with clients.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in Portrait Photography. I love capturing maternity sessions, family shoots, birthday shoots, and very intimate weddings. I am truly proud of how I continue to work towards my craft and continue to be more creative as the years continue. What sets me apart from others is my style of shooting and interactions with my clients. By the time we are done with the shoot, we will be more like family than photographer and client. My goal is to make everyone feel comfortable during our session.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t believe in luck. Everything that I have obtained in my career has been the product of hard work and resilience. An abundance of wealth and positive energy has helped open doors for me that I wasn’t prepared form. My name continues to be mentioned in rooms that I am not in. Word of mouth and quality work has really increased my business each year.
