Today we’d like to introduce you to Raymond Banks.
Hi Raymond, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Fashion has always been a major component in my life. My parents were very open to allowing me to express myself through fashion, there was never a moment when they told me no I couldn’t wear a particular item.
I started my fashion career in February 2013 after being told that I would not have a career in fashion due to my size. That moment really encouraged me to move forward and start my own brand.
In 2013 I launched my first brand The Gentlemen’s Touch which consisted of making bow ties. I continued on with this for about five years before I launched my current streetwear brand Hoodvenchy.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As an entrepreneur, the road is never smooth. The biggest struggle I had was figuring out what was best for my brand such. Most fashion designers do not stick to one avenue, they attempt to flow into all of them, but you have to find that one lane that best fits your brand’s vision.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am the designer and owner of Hoodvenchy streetwear brand. Along with this, I am also a modeling coach, runway show producer and wardrobe stylist. I specialize in all aspects of fashion, but I would have to say I am most knowledgeable in the design aspect. I am known for my designs, and also my model coaching you can spot a model trained by Raymond Banks their presence will captivate the room without them having to say a word. I am most proud of helping design and curate the Patrick Kelly exhibit at the Catfish Row Museum in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Also, I am most proud to be a graduate of the prestigious Parsons School of Design. Another huge accomplishment is being a part of Los Angeles Fashion Week and New York Fashion Week. The thing that sets me apart from others is my ability to maneuverer through all aspects of fashion whether it is designing, styling, runway coaching or producing runway shows. As a black man from Mississippi, when I go to cities outside of the south people are usually surprised by the work I present.
How do you think about luck?
Honestly, I don’t believe in luck. Anything that has happened in my life and business are all things destined by God. I live life through Jeremiah 29:11.
