Today we’d like to introduce you to Rhoda Hendrix.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
A career at this time in my life. My husband is retired and I’m still writing my blog, but we have time to travel and do more now.
The above doesn’t make sense, so can you check and see what I sent. It should be something like this:
I started my blog on a whim back in 2007, just for fun not knowing it would turn into a business about 4 years into it. It’s been such a great second career after for me after 50 and I’m still blogging, but will be slowing down a bit in the next year or so. My husband is retired and I’m still writing my blog, but we have time to travel and do more now.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The first four years of blogging were just for fun and then things began to change in the blogging world, just as I bought a fixer-upper house and began renovating it in 2012. Brands began working with bloggers and influencers wasn’t even a word then, but it all evolved into new careers for so many people who put themselves out there during the last 10 years. The hardest part has been keeping up with all the changes that are part of this online world. Learning a bit of HTML, WordPress and all the things that go with running a blog is the biggest challenge (I’m not the most techy person), but I’ve managed to learn what I needed to keep it going.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My blog is personal in many ways and I also share my family and any projects we are doing around our house. My readers have gotten to know my parents, who are 94 and 95 and living in assisted living near my house. I love that I have a job that is flexible, I can see to their needs and also run my business on my own schedule. I was very fortunate to get started early, I’m part of an ad network that helps my blog make a great income for me and I just write and share on social media on my own schedule. I’m proud that I built this blog from scratch and have been able to turn it into a business.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I think the fortunate part of my journey was to get in early. I started blogging early on when it wasn’t a thing yet, then as things evolved with people writing blogs online, the business side evolved. I’m very grateful for that, it completely changed my life since I started it at 50.
