Check Out Rickey Mccullough’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rickey Mccullough.

Hi Rickey , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Rickey Mccullough, formally known as “Slick DAWACO.” ( Digital Audio Workstation And Console Operator ) My journey started long before any formal training. I was an artist and writer before I ever stepped into a college classroom, but I wanted to take my creativity further. I enrolled at AIU ( American Intercontinental University) to learn how to create my own beats, record myself, and truly understand the craft behind the music I loved. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sound engineering, and from there I hit the ground running — interning, taking small gigs, and getting hands-on experience wherever I could find it.

Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up influenced by both family and the church, I developed a deep love for production early on. That foundation has always kept me grounded and inspired, even when the journey wasn’t easy

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Along the way, I’ve had to navigate depression, the loss of family members, creative blocks, the challenges of the music and film industry, and even battles with addiction. Every struggle taught me something, and every setback shaped the way I approach my craft today.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
One of the biggest turning points in my story came during college when I met the people who would eventually become my closest friends and business partners. We started off just working together on class projects, but the chemistry was undeniable. Before long, we formed our own small production team, and we’ve been together ever since — more like family than colleagues. Through that journey, I learned invaluable lessons about collaboration, loyalty, growth, and what it really means to be an independent filmmaker and music producer.

Since graduating, I’ve worked on five short films and have scored or engineered four feature films. I’ve produced sound for multiple sets across the Atlanta area, from independent projects to more established productions. Most of my work has been behind the scenes, and I prefer it that way. I’d rather be known for my work ethic, my character, and my skill set than for chasing the spotlight.

Moving forward, my goal is to create content my family can be proud of and to share this journey with the people who have supported me. I want to connect with others through my music, my work ethic, and my story — to inspire, uplift, and spread good energy. My mission is to build wealth that can support my family and give back to the community that raised me. Above all, I want to navigate this industry with integrity, have fun along the way, and glorify God through everything I do.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can work with me by reaching out for sound engineering, music production, film scoring, or on-set audio services. I’m always open to collaborating with artists, filmmakers, content creators, production teams, and anyone who values professionalism, creativity, and strong work ethic. I enjoy building long-term working relationships, so I look for collaborators who are passionate, reliable, and serious about creating quality work.

Support can come in many forms — from hiring me for projects, referring me to others, or even just sharing the work I’ve been a part of. I’m committed to contributing my skills to meaningful projects and helping bring other people’s visions to life just as much as my own.

My goal is to create a positive environment where we can work, grow, and build together. Whether it’s a film, a score, a music project, or a creative idea still in development, I’m open to connecting with people who want to make something impactful. My Social media is SlickDawaco on Instagram, TikTok and facebook. I can also be reached via email, slickdawaco@gmail.com
