Hi Safiya, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am 19 years old. I started my company Everlasting Melanin at the age of 17. I have always had a passion for the hair ever since I was young. One day I was just sitting in my room thinking to myself, what am I truly passionate about. the idea sparked of me owning my own hair company. At this point in time, I was getting my hair done often. After the idea sparked, I went straight to doing my research. It took me months to find a great vendor, to build my website, to buy all the packaging and more. My parents supported me and believed in me 100%. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am at right now. At this current point, I expanded my business and started to sell hair care products. I’ve been using these products for over two years and once I noticed they worked, I decided to add it to my business. I put a lot of time and effort into my business because I know as long as I am consistent, I will do great things.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road throughout my journey so far. I have had a few bumps to where sometimes I get discouraged to continue on because I wasn’t getting as many orders as I wanted at the time. Also since I am still in school, it got very overwhelming to the point I noticed I wasn’t doing everything in a fast and timely manner anymore. That is when I learned I had to plan out my time accordingly.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I sell wigs, bundles, tape-ins, all-natural hair products such as shampoo, conditioner, hair growth oil, treatment and rice water spray. I am known for selling top-quality hair and amazing hair care products. It goes hand and hand take care of your hair underneath your wigs with my hair care products. I’m honestly proud of everything I’ve done with my company but I am most proud of how much work, effort and studying I put into making my all-natural products. What sets me apart from others, I feel as though is my name and my creativity. I put a lot into the creation of my name and why I named it everlasting melanin.
