Today we’d like to introduce you to Saikou Tidiane Toure
Hi Saikou, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Conakry, Guinea growing up with my Mother, Father and four siblings.
Growing up in the lower class; I had to work hard while attending school from kindergarten until graduating from college.
In Guinea; Basketball wasn’t as big as it is now so I played Soccer to stay active and I had a more natural love for it.
My teachers felt I had great potential in Basketball because I was always taller than everyone else and that motivated me to begin playing it in High School.
Their encouragement helped me also believe in my skill and from there I completely committing to the sport of Basketball.
To help improve my performance; I hired a Personal Trainer by the name of Dante Hancock who is the owner of Inferno Fitness.
Under his training routine; I have became physically stronger and more explosive which has helped me improve my overall Basketball performance.
Dante also serves as my Sports Representative to help expose me more as a Basketball Player.
As of this month; I signed my first Semi-Professional Basketball contract with Team Express of Atlanta GA and look to put my skills to the test.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I was on a stable path working my career job and playing Basketball; but in 2020 I suffered an injury from a motorcycle accident which put playing the sport on hold. Dealing with the setback was mentally draining as I moved away from my family and home country to make a career from Basketball.
It was a tough obstacle I had to work through in making a full recovery; but it also helped me become more motivated than ever.
My goal was to come back stronger as I trained at my house even during the COVID pandemic. The consistency paid off as I stayed in shape and mentally ready for whatever opportunity came to me.
“Hard work pays off” and “Never give up”.
They are both cliche mottos; but still hold their weight……
If I had given up during that time of hardship; I may not be in the current position I am now.
Also, when I face challenges and think about quitting; I remind myself of how far I’ve come.
It was certainly not an easy challenge; but was needed to achieve the goals I’ve made today.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Once I graduated college in my home country of Conakry, Guinea; I began investing in the country’s trading market.
I still trade internationally with my home country and hope to soon invest in U.S. stocks in the near future once I learn more about it.
Trading stocks always has high volatility and its consistent changes keeps me interested.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
After college; I still trained and practiced at home in preparation for professional workouts..
My professional career didn’t start again until late 2021 as I began training with one of the best teams in the professional Guinean league, Horoya Basketball Academy (HAC).
It was dream come true for any Basketball player and as I was about to officially sign with the team; I got the chance to move to the United States of America.
I had to take the offer as I believed it would give me a better life and also chance to become a professional Basketball player.
I also have a degree in Computer Science.
After graduating college; I got a job in Network Marketing and aimed towards becoming a professional in multi-level marketing.
