Today we’d like to introduce you to Salisha Jacob.
Hi Salisha, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started my massage career back in 2014, and I’ve been practicing ever since. My passion is to help individuals with tight muscles. The everyday stress, with our jobs and personal life, and hobbies that make their muscles tight. I specialize in Neuromuscular Therapy, which is a combination of massage techniques and deeper pressure. I started my mobile business in December. As a creator and founder of The Touch Of Little Hands, it is my mission to provide relaxation at its best! Providing therapeutic massages in the comfort of your own home is conducive to an unforgettable experience. Massages are a great way to treat yourself to something beneficial to the mind and body.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For my journey, becoming a massage therapist has been a smooth road. I’ve always had the passion for helping others. After high school, I did my research on career fields that can make an impact on everyday lives. Massage therapy intrigued me, and I went to Gwinnett College for a campus tour. I fell in love with how the body works, as well as what a massage therapist can really do for someone besides just relaxing them. I obtained my license, and shortly after, I started working at a spa, but I wanted a little more. A little more to where I know I’m actually making a difference. After three years of practicing in spas and getting my foot in the door, I ventured off into a chiropractor’s office. This was more of what I knew my potential could be. Focusing on specific muscle groups, dealing with personal injury cases with patients who could barely turn their neck, to regular athletes with tight muscles came to see me for treatment. I was at that office for a couple of years, and it taught me more as well as adding more certifications to my knowledge. I later decided to open my own business, I know with my potential, I needed to become my own boss. Someone who can customize a treatment plan based off of my own knowledge and experience. The business aspect has been challenging like any other business. Starting from scratch after almost nine years of practicing has been challenging, but with faith my business has been great.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in neuromuscular therapy. It’s a combination of deeper pressure, along with trigger point therapy. I’m known for my “strong little hands” as some has said. That’s how I came up with the name for my business, The Touch Of Little Hands. I’m most proud of how my touch has become an impact to my client’s lives. Some suffer with back or hip pain, and receiving massages from me has helped. Some are on their health journey, and frequent massages add to that. What sets me apart from others are my techniques, knowledge, and passion. Each session starts off with questions I ask each client. Based on the answers, I customize the type of massage that will be done during that session. I like to think my massages gives that “reset” feeling.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I have a couple of friends that are business owners, and they have helped guide me through my own journey, with The Touch Of Little Hands. Reading, talking to new people, and just putting yourself out there. Educating myself in any way possible has helped. You will never have all the answers, you learn as you go, but to keep going and never stopping is the key. You can succeed in anything, just set up a game plan and take off. Most importantly, never loose faith.
