Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Scott.
Hi Samantha, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am originally from Chicago and relocated to Atlanta to attend Clark Atlanta University, where I earned both my undergraduate and graduate degrees. I am currently wrapping up my doctoral degree in Public Policy and am set to graduate in August 2026. I am an elementary school teacher in the inner city of Atlanta. In addition, I own a business where I teach women how to become their own boss in the beauty industry. I also have my own hair care brand, Starstrickn, and recently published my second self-care book for Black women, which is available for purchase on Amazon.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Over the past five years, I have faced some of the most difficult and transformative moments of my life. I made the heartbreaking decision to call off my wedding, which forced me to redefine my future and my sense of self. Shortly after, I became a single mother, learning in real time how to balance grief, responsibility, ambition, and healing while still showing up every day for my child.
During this same period, my mother became seriously ill, which deeply shifted my priorities and strengthened my faith, patience, and resilience. Perhaps the most painful challenge of all was losing my younger sister. That loss changed me forever. Navigating life without her has been an ongoing journey of grief, reflection, and growth.
Through all of these experiences, I learned how to stand when life was trying to break me. I learned how to build while hurting, lead while healing, and love while grieving. These challenges didn’t stop me—but they shaped me. They deepened my compassion, strengthened my purpose, and fueled my commitment to serve, teach, and empower others, especially women and children who are facing their own silent battles.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My work lives at the intersection of education, entrepreneurship, and empowerment. By profession, I am an inner-city elementary school teacher in Atlanta, where I specialize in creating supportive, culturally affirming learning environments that nurture not only academic growth, but confidence, identity, and leadership in young children.
Beyond the classroom, I am an entrepreneur and business mentor for women in the beauty industry. I own a hair care brand, Starstrickn, and I also run a business where I teach women how to become their own boss—guiding them in building sustainable beauty businesses, developing their skills, and understanding the mindset required to succeed as entrepreneurs.
I am also an author. I recently published my second self-care book for Black women, created to support healing, balance, and wholeness—especially for women who are constantly pouring into others.
What I am most proud of is my ability to build impact across generations. I serve children in the classroom, women in business, and communities through education, wellness, and advocacy, all while completing my doctoral degree in Public Policy. That combination reflects who I am: someone deeply committed to both personal empowerment and systemic change.
What sets me apart is that I don’t just teach theory—I teach from lived experience. I understand resilience, reinvention, and rebuilding firsthand. I bring heart, strategy, and cultural relevance into every space I enter. Whether I’m in a classroom, a workshop, or writing a book, my work is rooted in helping people see their worth, access their power, and create opportunities for themselves and others.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Yes, I’m very intentional about what I listen to and read because I believe what you pour into your mind shows up in your life, leadership, and work.
I enjoy listening to Sarah Jakes Roberts, whose messages on faith, purpose, healing, and growth keep me grounded and motivated. Her content speaks to both the personal and professional sides of my life and reminds me to lead with authenticity and courage.
Some of my favorite books include The 12 Week Year, which has helped me with focus, discipline, and execution; Who Moved My Cheese?, which taught me the importance of adaptability; The Slight Edge, which reinforced the power of small, consistent actions; What to Say When You Talk to Yourself, which shifted how I approach mindset and self-talk; and The Power of Positive Thinking, which continues to influence how I navigate challenges with faith and optimism.
These resources support me in staying mentally strong, spiritually grounded, and strategically focused—so I can show up as my best self for my students, my business, and the women I serve.
