Today we’d like to introduce you to Sasha Rezmer.
Hi Sasha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started playing piano when I wasn’t even four years old yet. I have always had a love of music, but piano has been my outlet for as long as I can remember. Growing up, I could be found at the piano for hours on end. My family used to joke that they could tell what kind of mood I was in based off of what music I was playing. In 2007, I began teaching in Seattle, Washington while I attended The University of Washington. I have been teaching ever since. In 2015, a random conversation while I was sitting at my daughter’s ballet class began my Kindermusik accreditation and teaching journey. I became accredited in 2016 and taught at the same studio where I had learned about Kindermusik. In 2017, I took a job at Sugar Hill Christian Academy teaching preschool music and upper school Chorus, Musical Theatre, Music Theory, as well as, Piano and Ukulele alongside my private piano students. My time there came to a close when I decided to stay home with my now 2-year-old in 2022. At that time, I officially launched my own business and Music with Ms. Sasha was born! I currently teach a full load of private piano students and teach Kindermusik out of two studios in Flowery Branch and Gainesville. I truly thrive on bringing the love of music to my students and families!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. Life has had lots of twists and turns. I had a wrist injury in High School that very nearly caused me to give up piano entirely, but somehow, I kept going. That injury never completely healed and this year, I finally got the help I needed to get it fully repaired after years of pain. With that, opening and running my Kindermusik studios has been an adventure all unto itself. Finding the right space, getting families in the door, maintaining a viable business despite competitors trying to derail it, are all tough, but so worth it in the end. Not to mention juggling 5 kids and running a full-time business is no joke!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I teach Suzuki piano private lessons and Kindermusik group classes in Flowery Branch and Gainesville. I am known for an inclusive, joyful teaching experience that empowers all my students. I go out of my way to meet every child where they’re at. That’s a huge part of my teaching philosophy that stems from my Suzuki training. Dr. Suzuki’s philosophy that every child can learn and that our fundamental goal as teachers is to develop exceptional human beings – not just musicians – human beings, fuels how I approach every student no matter their age, background, etc.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Whatever setbacks might present themselves, your perception of it as a challenge/growth opportunity versus a setback makes all the difference.
