Today we’d like to introduce you to Shanae Thomas.
Hi Shanae, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my Cosplay journey back at the end of 2016, beginning of 2017. I was always hearing about Comic Con and I finally just grabbed a party city costume and I went. Once I saw all the merchandise, the people, the talent, the costumes, meeting my favorite celebrities. I was simply engulfed and enamored with excitement and I dug deep into the craft. During the pandemic, I started my TikTok and now I have over 2 million views off my cosplays and just being silly. I’m interviewing people like the Voice of Mickey Mouse. I’m just extremely blessed and Grateful and I can’t wait to have access to even more to bring other people like me along.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. Once you get to a certain level, you’ll meet a new devil. If you take really nice photos, someone who’s never done a photoshoot may think that YOU think that you’re better than them. You have a higher following than most and people think you’re not personable. If you don’t have a lot of people discussing you because they don’t know you, then rumors get started. But, even with all that sometimes it can hurt but I am thankful for therapy because now I know where to place those things and say that’s a you thing, not a me thing.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am A Cosplayer but am also an Amateur comedian. I specialize in hair care mostly. That’s what I am most proud of.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is however you define success. For me, if I can make a cosplay that is exactly what I see on screen then I feel successful. I don’t care if someone recognizes it at all, I don’t care If the cosplay gets 30 views. I am most happy that I on my own, put my mind and hands together to make something I wanted.
