Check Out Sheba Jennings’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheba Jennings

Hi Sheba, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Poetry is the core of me. It’s how I found my voice, my power, and ultimately, my purpose. I’m Sheba Jennings—a wordsmith, poet, and writer proudly rooted from the Inland Empire of Southern California. While music has always been my first love, I began my public journey through spoken word. For fifteen years, since I was ten years old, I’ve performed poetry as a way to inspire my community, encourage people to walk in their purpose, and mobilize them to action.

From day one, I’ve believed in the power of art—how it influences thought, connects hearts, and unites people across backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. Music, poetry, and art aren’t just forms of expression for me—they’re tools for transformation, healing, and collective empowerment. They allow us to see ourselves in one another, to feel deeply, and to be moved toward something greater.

My biggest influence has always been my mom. She’s a lifelong music head who exposed me to a wide range of artists and genres—from old-school classics to boundary-pushing creatives. She nurtured my ear and my spirit, expanding my creativity and helping me fall in love with sound and storytelling.

That love has carried me into the world of music, where I now channel the same energy I bring to poetry—raw emotion, intentional messaging, and a deep desire to create something meaningful. As I continue to fuse my passion for entertainment with education and political consciousness, I’m committed to creating work that not only captivates but calls people to connect, reflect, and rise.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly, it’s been a smooth road for me. I truly believe that your gifts make room for you, and that’s exactly what has happened on this journey. Opportunities—from gigs to speaking engagements—have continued to manifest themselves in ways that feel divinely aligned. It’s all been confirmation that I’m walking in my purpose and doing the work I’m destined to do.

If I had to name an obstacle, it wouldn’t be anything external—it would be me. I’ve had moments where imposter syndrome crept in or where the fear of success made me question if I was really ready for what I prayed for. But even in those moments, I’ve learned to quiet the doubt and trust the gift. The real work has been pushing past those internal blocks and reminding myself that I am called, I am equipped, and I am enough.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a rapper, poet, and wordsmith—at my core, I’m a storyteller. Whether it’s through a verse, a spoken word piece, or a rap performance, I use my voice to move people. My work lives at the intersection of entertainment and intention. I’m not just here to entertain—I’m here to create art that has substance, speaks truth, and makes people feel something real.

What I specialize in is lyrical storytelling. Every word I write is deliberate, layered with meaning, and rooted in purpose. I care deeply about lyrics and verses—not just for the rhyme or rhythm, but for the message. I want people to walk away from my work inspired, challenged, and seen. That’s the power of words. That’s the gift I’ve been given, and I don’t take it lightly.

I’m most proud of being a writer. That’s the foundation of everything I do. Before the beat drops, before the mic turns on, it starts with the pen. I’ve learned how to turn lived experiences into art that resonates—art that connects people, bridges gaps, and calls communities to action.

What sets me apart is that I fuse artistry with impact. My pieces reflect my love for music, my commitment to education and political consciousness, and my desire to elevate the culture in meaningful ways. It’s not just about a catchy hook or clever punchlines—it’s about crafting something timeless.

And I think people can feel that. They feel the heart behind it. Because I’m not performing—I’m pouring. This is purpose work.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Reading is essential to me. It’s one of the biggest tools that helps me do my best—both in life and in my creative work. Books expose me to new words, fresh perspectives, and deeper ideas. They stretch my thinking, challenge my views, and expand my vocabulary in ways that directly influence how I write and express myself.

Even fictional books play a huge role in my process. They fire up my imagination and help me think more creatively, whether I’m writing lyrics, poetry, or developing a concept. There’s something powerful about getting lost in someone else’s world—it makes me better at building my own.

I also pull inspiration from interviews and podcasts that feature creatives, artists, and thought leaders who speak on purpose, process, and discipline. But at the root of it all, books have always been my go-to. They keep my mind sharp, my pen ready, and my creativity flowing.
