Today we’d like to introduce you to Shona Dion.
Hi Shona, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I grew up in a small town called Dacula, GA. As a young child, I was enamored with fashion and makeup. I remember playing in all of mother’s makeup and experimenting with the colors. While I was in high school, I participated in a beauty pageant, won, and received a modeling scholarship. These earlier experiences fueled my lifelong passion for the beauty industry.
After completing modeling school, I started with a modeling agency. My work there landed me magazine shoots, fashion shows, print work, music videos and film roles. As I got older, I wanted to go a different route into the beauty limelight. So, I decided to venture into Bikini Pageantry and Bodybuilding competitions. This allowed me to pursue more of my interests and I loved competing along with the thrill of winning. I was still active and competing before and after giving birth to my two sons.
After retiring from competitions, I wanted to reintroduce myself to the artistry of makeup. The industry was changing rapidly, and I needed to catch up. So, YouTube became my university, and I scoured every makeup artist channel I could find. Through sheer determination and relentless note-taking, I educated myself on modern makeup artistry. I’m now applying much of my knowledge providing services to my many clients.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As with any goal in life, nothing is a given and everything is earned. The main obstacle has always been my own mind. I’ve been my worst enemy by doubting my abilities and worried about criticism. This has been a lifelong struggle not only in my professional career but also in my personal life. In many ways, the work I do with my client allows me to provide them with the things I struggle with.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve always had a keen interest in modeling, fitness and makeup therefore I operate under the name Glamfitchick, I specialize in making women feel beautiful, powerful and confident. I feel like the work I provide is more of a therapy for these women than just a beauty service. I can’t tell you how many of my clients express how wonderful their experience was and appreciate the bond that is created in the process. It’s a wonderful feeling that keeps me inspired and satisfied.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I’m a native to Georgia born and raised in Gwinnett County. I have seen the massive transformation of my city from just farmlands to a bustling suburb. I’ve seen Atlanta grow into a major metropolis and a vibrant diverse city. Despite all of that, the thing I most love is that all of my family still lives a short distance from me and calls this home. Of course, my least favorite thing is traffic.
