Today we’d like to introduce you to Shorty Roc.
Hi Shorty, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Shorty Roc, the Celebrity Podcaster and I grew up in the Bronx, NY in a neighborhood called Co-op City. Co-op City is broken up into five sections and I lived in Section 4. It was in the Bronx where I started rapping. I started off as a battle rapper going from block to block and neighborhood to neighborhood battling local rappers. I honed my skills as I got older and decided to become a professional rapper after relocating to Atlanta, GA. Since deciding to become a professional rapper in 1999, I have toured around the USA appeared on numerous stages, television shows, radio shows, and I have appeared in a few independent films. While performing around the USA, I ran into numerous celebrities and exciting professional artists which inspired me to start my own podcast and online TV Network called The Khaliseum LLC. TheKhaliseum.com which was created in 2019 is a website in which you can watch over 500 movies, tv shows, podcasts, music videos, & even read magazines. The Khaliseum is a TV Network that is home to my signature show “The Shorty Roc NYC Podcast” which interviews celebrities, athletes, rappers, singers, models, & actors
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it hasn’t been such a smooth road. Some challenges have been a lack of funding. Due to so many major apps and TV networks now trying to snatch up the space on our phones, our grassroots company has had to compete with multi-million dollar marketing campaigns created by our competitors. Companies like Hulu and Netflix try to smother smaller movie streaming companies like The Khaliseum with big-budget marketing.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
First and foremost, I am a Rapper with over 52 songs distributed worldwide via all stream platforms under the moniker “King Roc”. Despite my long history of rapping, I have been building The Khaliseum movie streaming social network for years and I am focused on building The Shorty Roc NYC Podcast into a well-known podcast that specializes in interviewing the hottest celebrities in the world. The thing that sets me apart is the fact that The Khaliseum is the FIRST black-owned Movie Streaming Social Network and we have over 100 independent black films streaming on our platform.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The major shift that I see coming our moving streaming industry is that more and more movie studios are going to enter the space and create their own exclusive apps. We hope to compete with them and win.
