Check Out Sommer Walker’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sommer Walker.

Hi Sommer , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am 22 years old, the youngest of four, and I was born and raised in Georgia. I have always loved being both in front of and behind the camera. From a young age, I was drawn to YouTube, singing my favorite songs, and expressing myself creatively in any way I could. I remember being in elementary school making short skits and videos just for fun, simply because creating made me happy and that love for content creation never left me. I was inspired by many creators, especially YouTubers like MyLifeAsEva, who showed me that it was possible to turn creativity into connection. I knew early on that I wanted to be someone who created a safe space where people who relate to me could feel seen, accepted, and free to be themselves. I began taking content creation seriously during my senior year of high school and have continued to grow and pursue it throughout college. Now, as I enter my fourth year at the University of Georgia as a Mass Communications major with a concentration in Entertainment and Media Studies and a minor in African American Studies, I’ve been able to expand my knowledge of camera work, editing, and screenwriting skills that continue to strengthen my artistic abilities.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey hasn’t always been easy. There have been times when it felt discouraging to put in so much effort and not see the results I hoped for. I’ve fallen off from content creating a few times, and life responsibilities like school, work, and personal challenges often got in the way. Still, even during those moments of doubt and inconsistency, my passion for creating never fully disappeared it was always waiting for me to return to it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My content focuses on makeup, collegen life, fashion, lifestyle, music, and relatable girl chats, everything I love and wished I saw more of on social media. I wanted to be a part of creating the kind of content that feels real and meaningful. My proudest moments are always when someone tells me they love my content and that it stands out from others. So much of what we see online today is repetitive, and while following trends can be tempting, I never wanted to lose what makes my work personal. What’s the point of posting the same thing over and over if it doesn’t fulfill you? Social media often pushes a “quantity over quality” mindset to satisfy the algorithm and chase success, but that’s never been true to who I am. Everything I create is rooted in authenticity and staying true to myself.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I wouldn’t consider myself the biggest risk-taker, more so someone who is slowly learning how to step outside of my comfort zone. The biggest risk I’ve taken in my personal life was deciding to take a gap year after my sophomore year of college. At that time, I was unsure of who I was and where I wanted to go. I questioned whether college was truly for me. When I told my parents, my mom fully supported my decision, while my dad took some time to accept it. I had been on the honor roll my entire life and always craved academic validation and excellence, so stepping away from school was terrifying. I had no clear idea of what was next for me. That changed when one of my close friends, Cameron, introduced me to the Disney College Program. I applied, got accepted, and just a few months later, we moved together as roommates. During that year off, I discovered so much about myself. I formed deep friendships, some with girls I now call my sisters for life and experienced so many new things. It was also the first time I had ever been so far away from my family. Moving to a new state and learning how to find my footing became a major part of my journey, not only as an individual but also as a creative learning to trust herself.
